On average, 500 people visit our library each day it is open, and this number is growing each year!  The new library is a very popular place with many great programs - from "Crafternoons" and preschool storytime to reading practice with listening doggies and movies and programs for teens. Have you been there yet?  If not, check it out.  The library is located on Crawford Way, next to the post office.  Want even more hours and resources at the library?  Here's a hint - the library funding formula is based on circulation of materials, not visits.  So when you go to the library, don't leave empty handed!    Check out a book, CD or other material so you can enjoy it at home, too!

P.S.
"Crafternoons" are held the 2nd Saturday of each month at 12 noon; the next one is tomorrow. Don't forget to check something out before you leave.
City Council Meeting Follow Up

The City Council finished off the year with a full meeting agenda on December 15th.  Among the many business items, one item was of the greatest interest:  approval of Napa Logistics Park Phase 2 in the Airport Road commerce area.  This new project will allow up to 2.27 million square feet of industrial development, including warehousing, manufacturing, distribution, and similar uses.  At completion, it is possible the project could employ more than 5,500 people.  The City Council imposed several conditions to mitigate traffic impacts that the project may bring.  You can learn more about this project HERE, and see the entire City Council agenda for December 15th HERE. Watch the video of the meeting HERE.
No More Plastic Bags in American Canyon

Single-use plastic bags are a thing of the past in American Canyon.  Effective January 1, stores in American Canyon are no longer able to give you a free single-use plastic bag with your purchase.  You may either bring your own bags shopping or the store may sell you paper bags for 10 cents each.  The cities of Napa, St. Helena and Calistoga already have similar rules in place, and Yountville and unincorporated Napa County are planning to adopt restrictions in the coming months.  Click here for more information.  If you'd like a free reusable shopping bag, stop by any city facility (City Hall, Parks & Rec Office, Public Safety building or the Senior Center) during regular business hours for a free one.
Time to Sign up for Little League

American Canyon Little League will be holding sign ups and try outs beginning Saturday, January 9th. Click here for the info.

Street Sweeping

The streets in American Canyon are swept by Recology every other week on the day after your garbage pickup.  Sweeping not only makes your neighborhood look nice, but it serves an important purpose, too.  The sweeper removes oil, trans and weeds that can damage the asphalt and drain into our wetlands.  This time of year, the sweeper picks up fallen leaves before they can clog storm drains and cause clogs. If your car is parked on the street blocking the street sweeper, it can't do its job.  Please move your car off the street on street sweeping day so that our streets are clean and safe.

Your street will be swept on the next business day after your trash pickup, every other week.  If your trash gets picked up on Monday, your street will be swept every other Tuesday, according to the schedule below.  If your trash pick-up is on Friday, your street will be swept every other Monday. Please move your car to your driveway the night before street sweeping.
