This would be the perfect opportunity for me to write a little "year in review" summary, but I'll resist the temptation to go overboard. Suffice it to say we had our share of natural disasters (drought, flood, earthquake), but we also saw an uptick in development (residential and industrial projects in the works), completed a couple long-awaited park amenities (Newell open space access and the bocce courts), and wrapped up a much needed regional vision for Highway 29.
Without much ado, let's just jump forward to 2015. In January we kickoff our first ever Citizen's Academy (sorry, registration has closed, but we'll run another session later in the year). Also in January, plan on attending two special workshops. On Monday, January 26 the City Council and Planning Commission will hold a workshop to discuss future development along the highway corridor and economic development overall. On Tuesday, January 27 the City Council and Planning Commission will receive a presentation about the Watson Ranch/Napa Valley Ruins and Gardens project. Both of these are important topics, and I encourage you to attend. Also in the spring watch for the citywide Parks and Recreation needs assessment, as a follow up to our visioning project in 2013. This is your chance to let us know your thoughts about the future of parks and recreation programs in American Canyon.
The Chamber of Commerce annual State of the City presentation is February 12, the new Parks and Recreation Community Foundation will kickoff their membership drive early in 2015, and our citywide customer service survey goes out in March. The Kimberly Park project should be underway this summer and improvements to the parking lot by the library will begin in the spring. You will hear more about all these things in the coming weeks and months...stay tuned for a great 2015!
