Every two weeks I send out these emails with news and information about projects coming up.  But I seldom hear from you!  If we are going to make good choices about programs and projects that benefit the community, then the City needs to know your thoughts and perspectives on important policy issues.  Since I really don't want to receive 2,000 email responses to every one of these updates, we have come up with a much more interesting and practical way for you to offer your thoughts and ask questions about important issues on the horizon.  So...right now before you get distracted with laundry or TV sporting events, go to www.engageAC.com and log in.  EngageAC is the newest tool in our tool chest to not only keep you informed, but also engage with you and hear your ideas.  This is how it works:  we will pose questions or ask for ideas in particular topics, and you give us your feedback. We'll be listening, and respond as well.  Very simple.  Right now we have posed questions about ice cream trucks, mobile food vendors (food trucks), farmer's markets, and more.  I just know each of you has an interest in at least one of these topics...log in and lets hear it!

PS:  In case you haven't seen it yet, here's a link to the coolest video about our very own trails and open spaces in American Canyon.  Share with your friends, too.

FEMA Assistance Now Available for Earthquake Recovery

This week the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that it has authorized financial assistance for individuals and businesses suffering damages due to the August 24th Earthquake.   According to FEMA, residents in Napa and Solano County will be eligible for assistance up to $33,000 to repair structures to safe conditions. FEMA has provided a Fact Sheet with the details. Disaster loans will also be made available to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. Click here for more info. The Small Business Administration will be offering low-interest loans for earthquake repairs. SBA Assistance is NOT just for businesses, it's for home and property help, too. More information is available here.

Veterans Day Ceremony

Please help us pay tribute to current and former service members by joining us at our upcoming American Canyon Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2014.  The ceremony will be held in the Community Center Gym at 100 Benton Way at 11 AM.  We have a terrific program planned to include guest speakers, performances and refreshments. Check out our Veterans Day Flyer for more information.Hope to see you there.

HERO Program Coming to AC Soon

In mid-November you will have a new way to pay for energy and water-saving solutions to your home or business.  Residents of Napa County can cover the cost of solar energy panels, and other conservation measures through assessments on their property tax bills and without an upfront payment.  HERO stands for Home Energy Renovation Opportunity and participation is completely voluntary.  Watch this newsletter for information about the launch in American Canyon.

Contractors mark your calendars!  A special training program is being offered to learn about the program on November 13th, 9-11 AM at the Napa City Hall Council Chambers. Click here to view the invitation.

On the Agenda...

Our next City Council meeting will be Tuesday, November 4th at 6:30 PM.  The full agenda is available here. The City Council will review, discuss and potentially act on  General Plan and Zoning Code amendments for the Canyon Estates project located east of Vintage Ranch. This project seeks to develop 38 acres for up to 38 semi-custom / custom executive homes.  We encourage you to come to the meeting to learn more and let us know what you think.

Parks & Recreation News

Parks Foundation Survey

Do you love our parks and recreation programs?  Think they are a very important part of life in American Canyon?  Do you like to make a difference in your community?  In recent months a group of interested citizens have come together to form an independent, non-profit organization called The American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation.  This organization is not affiliated with the City of American Canyon, but will work together with the City to improve your parks and recreation opportunities. The Foundation is looking for feedback from the community and would appreciate you taking 5 minutes to complete their survey!  You will be entered in a drawing to win a free Foundation membership. Go to the survey HERE.

Napa River/Bay Trail Phone Tour Launch

The San Francisco Bay Trail Project will launch a mobile phone tour developed for the American Canyon Wetlands on Sunday, November 2nd at 10:30 AM. Meet at the Wetlands Viewing Area at the corner of Eucalyptus & Wetlands Edge Rd. Bring your smart phone if you have one, walking shoes, water, hat, and a jacket. The hike will be led by Doug McConnell and will follow the flat 2.5-mile gravel loop trail. The tour was developed by Canogle/Convergence Media Team and funded through a Coastal Conservancy Explore the Coast grant.  For more information contact Maureen Gaffney at (510) 464-7909 or maureeng@abag.ca.gov. In the event of rain the event will be canceled.
