New Arrivals!

Here are the two newest residents of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The mom and dad swans built a nest in our constructed wetlands pond and settled in a few months ago.

On the Agenda?

The City Council is on summer recess and will not be having a meeting on July 1st. Their next meeting will be July 15th and we'll update you on the agenda next time.

Be a Good Neighbor!

How would you describe a good neighbor?  Someone who is quiet, puts their trash cans away, moves their car on street sweeping day, and maintains their yard?  At my house, I am blessed with some great neighbors.  Unfortunately, as I drive around town, I see a growing number of unkempt and overgrown yards.  Do you live on a corner?  Don't forget your side yard!  Tall, overgrown grass and weeds attract mice and insects that can be a hazard, in addition to just being unattractive.  Everyone needs to do their part to Keep American Canyon Beautiful.  Are you a good neighbor?  For more ideas on how to be a good neighbor, go here.

Step on up, folks, don't be shy.  Be prepared to experience the fun, the flavorful, the friendly and the fantastic!  The American Canyon Fourth of July Celebration is almost here!

Start off your Fourth of July with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Boy Scouts at the Boys and Girls Club from 7-11 AM, participate or cheer for runners in the Stars and Stripes Sprint starting at 8:30 AM along the parade route, and find a seat along the route of the Fourth of July Parade which begins at 10:30 AM.  The Fourth of July Festival, sponsored by Napa Valley Vintners, will run from 12-noon to 10 PM and offers live local entertainment, a "Free Family Area" for children under 10, "Kidz Fun Zone" (fee for some activities), and great food for lunch and dinner at the "Food Court."  Cap off the night with the best Fireworks Show around sponsored by Walmart at approximately 9:30 PM in Community Park II.  Hungry for more details?  Go HERE.

Ride the VINE!

Riding the bus isn't as difficult as you think, plus it saves gasoline and helps the environment.

American Canyon Transit can take you to locations in American Canyon, several VINE routes  take you to Napa, and the VINE 29 Express can take you to the El Cerrito BART station.  You can buy passes at the City of American Canyon Parks and Recreation office on Benton Way.  It really doesn't get any easier than that!  For more information, click HERE

Fireworks Safety
fireworks-red.jpg

Did you know that there is no such thing as "safe and sane" fireworks? Regardless of how safe or sane your sparkler is, it still sends out sparks and is a fire hazard.

All consumer fireworks are illegal in American Canyon, regardless of what they are called. This summer, with abundant dry grass, the police and fire departments will be adding patrols this year to be sure we are all safe. Frankly, when you can go to Community Park and watch the City's professional fireworks spectacular, why would you bother with those puny things anyway?

Newell Open Space Dedication Ceremony

Please join us to celebrate the opening of the NEW public access to the Newell Open Space Preserve at 9 AM on Saturday, June 28th (TOMORROW). The ceremony will take place at the trailhead for the Newell Multi-use Trail, which is just north of the intersection of Donaldson Way East and Newell Drive. A short walk up the trail will follow. The community has desired access to this pristine open space for many years. Come celebrate this significant accomplishment with us!

Napa Junction Phase III

On Tuesday July 1 (next Tuesday), the Planning Commission will consider a proposal to allow Napa Junction Phase III to include 180 apartment units.  This new apartment project will be on Napa Junction Road, just north of Walmart.  If you want to learn more about this project, click HERE.  The meeting will be held Tuesday July 1 at 6:30 PM at City Hall.  If you have questions, please feel free to attend the meeting, or contact Colette Meunier, here.
