Let's Get Ready to Rumble... April 5 & 6

The US Girls Wrestling Association's NATIONAL tournament will be at our very own American Canyon High School on April 5th and 6th.  The Sheriff's Office Activities League will co-host the event.  See the flyer here , click on the "Nationals" tab.

Bay Friendly Landscape Follow-Up

As mentioned in the last update, the Bay Friendly Landscape Coalition hosted a class teaching Bay Friendly design principles and practices to a class of professional designers.  Part of the class was a project at the Boys & Girls Club on Benton Way.  The demonstration project utilized volunteers from the Bay Friendly Design class as well as elbow-grease supplied by the Boys & Girls Club participants.  It is wonderful to see the transition from a weed patch to a sustainable landscape bed. See the before, during and after photos attached.

March 28, 2014

Yesterday morning I, along with Mayor Garcia and my management team, presented the annual State of the City report to about 60 interested community members.   It's fun to have the opportunity to share our accomplishments for the year, as well as talk about what is coming up next year.  Highlights included a short video about our new Vision Statement, a printed annual report, and comments from several city department heads about what is happening with the highway, drought, parks, new development, and more.  Sorry you missed it?  Of course you are!  While not quite as fun as being there, you can watch the new video on the city's website here.  Also, the annual State of the City report will be mailed to every American Canyon resident; look for it in your mailbox next week.  This  is an annual presentation hosted by the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce...mark your calendar for next spring so you don't miss it again!

On the Agenda....

The next City Council Meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday April 1st.  The complete agenda is available here.  This week the Council will present a Proclamation to endorse and support Napa iWALK.  iWALK is a grassroots countywide "movement" whose mission is to increase community walking and promote a healthy lifestyle. View the Proclamation. The City Council will also consider a Resolution in support of the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce as the operator of a new Visitors Center in American Canyon.  Recently, the Chamber received funding from Visit Napa Valley and the American Canyon Tourism Business Improvement District to fund the center.  The new center will benefit the Chamber, City, local businesses and residents by providing a wide range of information and support to visitors in the area.  See the staff report.

Be Water Wise!

About 20 adults and children from the American Canyon Mom's Club recently toured the Water Treatment Plant.  The City is offering this tour in conjunction with our water conservation program. The more people know about where our water comes from and how precious it is, the better for all of us!  Interested in bringing your group to the plant for a tour? Contact Lou Leet, Water Conservation Specialist by email or by calling 647-4521.

2nd Annual Career Day

American Canyon High School and Kasama Lee of Young Leadership Academy are sponsoring the 2nd annual career day at the high school.  The event provides students with firsthand knowledge about potential career paths and also gives business owners a chance to meet some of the local workforce.

The event will be held at the high school on April 9th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  The City will have staff on hand from many departments to talk to the kids about careers in local government including police, fire, planning, administration and public works (they are even bringing a backhoe!).

Businesses are required to register, contact Roddrick Sweeney at 647-4566.
