Holiday celebrations are in full swing, and the year is winding down. So much to reflect on in 2013, and even more to look forward to in 2014. We have so much to be grateful for in American Canyon - wonderful weather, the hills to the east and wetlands to the west, a community of engaged and supportive residents, parks, great schools, and much more. This is a good time of year to take a step back from the day-to-day stresses of life and recognize the many blessings we enjoy in our American Canyon home.
I've never been very patient this time of year, so I already opened my Christmas present (a new mixer!). I hope each of you receives boatloads of glad tidings, and at least a few gifts, this holiday season.
PS: Just a reminder that City offices will be closed beginning tomorrow, December 24 through Wednesday January 1 for holidays and furloughs. We will return to work on Thursday January 2.
Winter Break Camps
The Parks and Recreation Department is offering several new camps and classes during the winter break to help keep kids active, socially engaged and having fun! Register now for these great winter break activities.
Now what do I do with this dried up holiday tree?
The holidays will be here and gone faster than we know it! You may find yourself asking a few days after the festivities what your options are to get rid of that tree. Please take a few minutes to dispose of your tree the best way (which is not dumping it on public property!). Here are a few choices:
- Cut down to size, place in your yardwaste bin, and set out on your regularly scheduled garbage pick up day.
- Place your tree out in the street, by the curb, before 8 AM on January 4th and our local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be happy to haul it away and chip it into garden-friendly mulch. A donation of $5.00 is requested. The Boy Scouts request that you put cash or a check made payable to Boy Scout Troop 62 in an envelope marked BSA and attach it to your front door or front gate and leave your tree out. The Scouts will use donations to help pay for summer camp. Boy Scout Troop 62 and Cub Pack 178 in American Canyon appreciate your contribution and wish everyone in American Canyon a great New Year!!
