September 13, 2013
Greetings!

Twice a month I send out these emails to keep you up to date on city hall news, but every once in a while other news catches my eye and I just have to share. Tonight is the 1st Annual Armed Forces and First Responder Appreciation Night at the American Canyon High School football game.  Beginning this Sunday, September 15th and continuing through Tuesday the 17th the Friends of the American Canyon Library will hold a book sale at the library from 10 AM - 5 PM daily.  What a great way to buy books and support our local library at the same time. On Wednesday, September 18th a Red Cross Blood Drive will take place in town, see the flyer here.  Lastly, the Chamber of Commerce has two events scheduled; the annual Oktoberfest, September 21st and the Innovative Funding Forum, an educational session designed to help find funds for starting local businesses is October 3rd.  Check the Chamber's website for more information.  See you around town!

On The Agenda....

Our next City Council Meeting is Tuesday, September 17th at 6:30 PM.  The full agenda lists all items that will be considered for action by the City Council.  Of interest will be the award of a contract to authorize the annual Pavement Management System Project.  This project applies a rejuvenating seal to existing asphalt to improve the surface of a road and prolong its overall life.  A list of specific road segments and the staff report is available here.  After approval of the contract, work on the roads will begin in mid-October. For more information call Public Works at 647-4558.

Landscaping Improvements at Napa Junction Center

The contractor for the Napa Junction Detention Basin Landscaping Project is finishing up the first phase of a four-phase improvement project along the frontage on the east side of Highway 29 between Rio Del Mar and Napa Junction Road.  Phase 1 included removing sections of the existing split-rail fence, replacing missing segments of the wall, grading a maintenance access path, installing a trash barrier, replacing trees, repairing and upgrading the irrigation system, and putting in new plantings.  The next phase of the project will likely be scheduled in the spring.  The work is being paid for by Zone 3 of the Landscaping and Lighting Assessment District, the Napa Junction development.

Radar Speed Signs Installed in School Zones

Ten radar speed signs paid for by a Safe Route to Schools grant have been installed to encourage drivers to drive safely and obey the speed limit near local schools.   Two signs are in place on Theresa Avenue, two on Donaldson Way, one on Benton Way, two on Wetlands Edge Road, one on Silver Oak Trail, one on Shenandoah, and one on southbound Newell Drive. For more information call Public Works at 647-4550.
