Greetings!
You know summer is in full swing once we celebrate Independence Day! The 4th of July festivities were a huge success this year! The City sponsored parade included over 50 entries featuring classic cars, floats, decorated vehicles and lots of fun people. Immediately following the parade, the 4th of July Committee sponsored "Showcasing our Community", a festival featuring a touching flag raising ceremony, over 30 vendors, live entertainment, children's activities and more. The day concluded with the annual fireworks show, bigger and better than ever! I'd like to thank the 4th of July Committee for their hard work; Richard Peterson (chair), Sindy Biederman, Morris Curry, Beth Marcus, Jonette McNaughton, Paul Shapiro, Roddrick Sweeney, and Sherry Tennyson. It is clearly people like you that make American Canyon so special!

On the Agenda...
Next week, the City Council will meet at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 16th. A presentation will be given by the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce to present the results of a series of surveys conducted over the last several months with the business community, residents and consumers. The surveys were a joint effort between the City and the Chamber and were designed to elicit feedback about local business resource needs as well as current City and Chamber services.
Later on the agenda City Council will consider awarding
a construction contract for work on Napa Junction Road. The project will include curb, gutter and sidewalks, striping and storm drain improvements along Napa Junction Road between Theresa Avenue and SR29. Work is expected to begin in August and be completed by the end of the year.

Broadway Lane Closures to Begin July 17
The contractor for the Broadway South Improvement Project, Ghilotti Construction, is scheduled to begin widening the roadway between Ventana Drive and Mini Drive on Wednesday, July 17. Work will begin at the southern end of Broadway and will require varying lane closures. Please drive carefully and watch for flaggers during construction hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
When the southern widening work is completed, crews will move north to the area between Ventana Drive and Las Casitas Mobile Home Park, where they will widen the road, remove existing asphalt, and apply a pavement overlay. They will also be working around the culverts at American Canyon Creek. The paving operation is expected to continue through August.
The street will be open to two-way traffic at night, but the roadway surface will be
rough and reduced speeds are advised. For information or to report problems, call
Public Works at 647-4558.
