May 31, 2013
Greetings!

It was one year ago this week that my husband and I closed escrow on our home and officially became American Canyon homeowners.  Slowly, the house is filling up, but I still have lots of empty space.  So, this weekend I will be eagerly going from yard sale to yard sale looking for treasures!  The weekend after Memorial Day has been the traditional community day for yard sales in American Canyon, and this year there will be more treasures than ever.  There will be more than 40 yard sales in town this weekend, starting today.  Click HERE for maps and a list of addresses, times and dates.  Happy hunting!

This Week on the Agenda

We know that many of you WANT to keep up with what's going on at City Hall but who has the TIME?  In an effort to help you stay informed we will be including this feature in every Friday Update.

On June 4th the City Council will hold a Public Hearing on the 2013-14 Budget.

Fiscal Year 2013 - 14 will be the first year following a "three year budget deficit elimination plan". During those three years many cuts were made to reduce expenses. Some of the cuts were deep - eliminating several programs and 13 staff positions, resulting in service level cuts. Additionally, employee income was reduced, equipment was not replaced on the regular schedule and other cuts.  As the economy begins to recover the City is cautiously moving into a program referred to as the "three year stabilization plan". To read all about the proposed 2013-14 City Budget please see the agenda linked below.  There are several documents.

Patch Paving Contract Completed

Grade-Tec, a paving contractor form Fairfield, has completed patch paving at approximately 30 locations around town where City crews had to dig up streets to repair waterline breaks. Bringing in an outside contractor enabled the Streets Division to complete the necessary repairs within less than a week and focus the regular maintenance crew's attention on seasonal priorities such as weed abatement. The $25,000 patch paving contract is being paid with Gas Tax funds. A larger Pavement Management Project is scheduled for later this summer to apply a rejuvenating ("fog") seal to about 100 street sections as preventive maintenance to extend the life of the pavement. That project is expected to be advertised

for bids in June or July.
