Community Wide Yard Sale

The City is helping promote a Community Wide Yard Sale the weekend of May 31 - June 2.

You can choose which days you'd like to participate as well as the hours you want to be open. We'll handle the advertising! This is a great opportunity to get rid of unwanted items helping to keep the City tidy and encourage recycling all at the same time. More information and a sign-up sheet available here.

May 3, 2013
Greetings!

We know American Canyon is a special community and one reason can certainly be attributed to all of our incredible volunteers.  I'd like to once again congratulate our 2013 Gateway Award winner, Beth Marcus.  The Community Recognition Ball was held last weekend and was a wonderful and very successful evening. For a complete list of award winners and pictures please click here.

I'd also like to announce that on May 11th, at the Healthy People - Healthy Planet Faire, we will be kicking off an extremely exciting undertaking.  Over the next several months we will be conducting the City's first-ever Community Visioning process.  This is a very important step to shaping our future.  We are hoping to get input from EVERYONE - residents and stakeholders alike on how we see the City's identity and focus and how we'd like to see that evolve over the next five - ten years.  We will be seeking input from the community in a variety of ways including focus groups, surveys, community events, etc.

Stay Tuned!

Dana

special vault installed during construction of the library. Contact the library at 259-8391 with questions.
Hope to see you there!

National Public Works Week is May 19-25

"Because of Public Works..." is the theme for this year's National Public Works Week.  For one week every year communities around the world celebrate the quality of life made possible by public works. The City Council will be recognizing our public works professionals at their next meeting on May 7th.

PW Week 2013

"Because of Public Works..." we have clean water, safe streets and neighborhoods, efficient traffic, and a community we can all be proud of.

We salute the 42 hard-working members of our Public Works team.

"Cash for Grass" Program

The Blue Ribbon Committee on Water Resources (BRC), an ad hoc City Council committee, is recommending adoption of a Water-Efficient Landscaping Rebate Program that will provide an incentive for residents and businesses to replace thirsty lawns with low-water-use landscaping.  The "Cash for Grass" program will be on the agenda for the City Council meeting on May 7th. Click here for more info.

Open Swim is BACK FOR SUMMER!!!

The Phillip West Aquatics Center will begin weekend open swim this weekend.  This is a great family friendly opportunity to beat the heat.  Non-swimmers under 4 feet tall must be accompanied by a responsible person age 16 or older. Here are all the details.

Summer Activity Guide Coming Next Week

The Summer Activity Guide will be dropped in the mail and sent to American Canyon residents next week.

Registration for the summer program season will begin Monday, May 20th at 8:30 am. There are new activities in the guide including summer open swim passes, special swim lessons just for children in the Canyon Kids Camp, and an all-summer long swim lesson program called Summer Swim Academy.

Also new this year, summer swim lesson registration will be broken into two periods; the first two sessions will be registered first, and the next two sessions a month later.  This should provide the opportunity for more families to enjoy the swim lesson experience.

Here are some registration tips.
