Transportation Plan Update
Next Tuesday, the City Council will consider approval of a comprehensive update to the City's Transportation Plan. Known as the Circulation Element, this plan identifies the roadway network and policies for safe and efficient mobility throughout the City over the next twenty two (22) years.
The Circulation Element works closely with implementation programs that fund and build new transportation infrastructure, such as the city's 5-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and private or public development. Some of the important issues addressed by the new transportation plan include keeping regional traffic on the regional facilities by widening Highway 29 from 4 to 6 lanes; setting the alignment of future roadways so that they direct traffic away from neighborhoods, and putting a greater emphasis on making sure new roads accommodate bicycles, pedestrians and transit.
