The meeting was designed to lay the groundwork and generate momentum on the road to COP20 in Lima, Peru and beyond to COP21 in Paris, France in 2015, where a post-2020 climate framework is set to be finalized.

Despite moratorium, Indonesia now has world's Highest Deforestation Rate

Despite a high-level pledge to combat deforestation and a nationwide moratorium on new logging and plantation concessions, deforestation has continued to rise in Indonesia, according to a new study published in Nature Climate Change. Annual forest loss in the southeast Asian nation is now the highest in the world, exceeding even Brazil.

The Green Economy approach is being widely promoted by UNEP to encourage the transition towards more inclusive, low-carbon, resource-efficient models of growth. Just over a year ago, the Indonesian government officially approved the country's first REDD+ forest carbon conservation project: Rimba Raya, which aims to protect more than 64,000 hectares of peat forest in Central Kalimantan. The impact of forest management activities on the ability of forest ecosystems to sequester and store atmospheric carbon is of increasing scientific and social concern. This is because a quantitative understanding of how forest management enhances carbon storage is lacking in most forest management regimes. In this paper two forest regimes, government and community-managed, in Kayar Khola watershed, Chitwan, Nepal were evaluated based on field data, very high resolution (VHR) GeoEye-1 satellite image and airborne LiDAR data.
