New WWF Guide Provides Toolkit for Building REDD+ Strategies

WWF's Forest and Climate Initiative has just launched the preview edition of its much-anticipated WWF Guide to Building REDD+ Strategies: A toolkit for REDD+ practitioners around the globe. The launch coincided with the conference "Options for National REDD+ Architectures" being held in Oslo, Norway 29-31 May, 2013.

In his foreword to the guide, Bård Vegar Solhjell, Minister of the Environment of the Government of Norway said: "The Government of Norway is pleased to support WWF's development of this publication. The guide arrives at a critical time when many tropical forest countries are in the process of, or considering, developing their national or subnational REDD+ strategies. The Government of Norway looks forward to continuing to support initiatives such as this and to seeing REDD+ realize real benefits for people and nature."

REDD+ Lessons Learned: Colombia
1. The success of a participatory policy development process depends on promoting dialogue and knowledge sharing among a wide array of stakeholders.

2. In a participatory policy development process, stakeholders need to define their views clearly but also be flexible to adapt to the group's needs.

3. Building successful public policies is achieved by integrating two approaches: top down and bottom up.
