Danville Youth help The Network of Care
On May 29 Supervisor Andersen joined Janet Frazier (pictured above with Candace) and Danville youth in packing meal bags for the Network of Care. This organization provides bags of non-perishable foods to community hospitals with pediatric wards. Nurses and social workers hand them out to families with children who have been suddenly hospitalized.
The Network of Care was started after Janet and Assemblyman Jim Frazier's two daughters were in a tragic car accident December 16, 2000. Stephanie lost her life and Lindsey was hospitalized in critical condition. A kind nurse shared her own lunch with Janet, when she recognized that Janet had not eaten for over 36 hours as she did not want to leave Lindsey's side to go get food. Janet, Jim, and Lindsey wanted to help others in similar situations and founded The Network of Care. Their gift of food provides strength, support, and comfort to families going through challenging circumstances. More information about this non-profit group can be found by clicking here.

Canyon Fire Safety Plan Meeting

Supervisor Andersen joined with Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District, Cal Fire, and the American Red Cross in Canyon on Wednesday, April 10th to discuss creating a fire safe plan for the Canyon community. Candace is an advocate for community members becoming CERT trained because in the event of a natural disaster, community members are going to need to rely on each other for at least 48 hours following an event as emergency responders will likely be unavailable. Much discussion regarding community emergency training, clearing a defensible space around dwellings as well as evacuations routes were discussed. The smart-phone app Pulse Point, which was developed by San Ramon Valley Fire, can be downloaded for free that will allow you to receive emergency updates from Moraga-Orinda FPD and Contra Costa FPD. In addition, everyone is encouraged to sign up to receive Contra Costa County Community Warning Messages via text message and/or email by clicking here. Thank you to Jonathan Goodwin for organizing such a wonderful meeting!
