Busses, Dismissal and Pick Up... Oh, My

In order to better offer safety to our students, we are making a change to how we do dismissal at Birchview. This will mostly affect students riding busses, but there will be a little impact to families who pick up students by the front doors of the school.

Teachers will now escort students from the classroom to the bus. This will ease congestion on the front veranda of the school. If you are a parent who picks up by the front doors, your child will be hand delivered to you by the classroom teacher. These adult-to-adult transfers will ensure our students have an adult supervisor who makes sure they are making it to the right location.

We are also asking parents to make any changes to transportation plans before 3:15 by calling the Birchview Office at 763-745-5300. Because the end of the day is a hectic time in the office and in classrooms, we cannot honor transportation changes after 3:15. Thank you for understanding.

Homework for Vacations
As you are making plans for family vacations, please keep in mind our practice for providing families with homework as outlined in the Parent Handbook:

HOMEWORK MAKE-UP POLICY

"Make-up assignments are provided AFTER the student returns from an absence.  Please contact your child's homeroom teacher for specific assignments."

Students will always benefit from daily reading while on vacation. Journaling the experiences they have while on vacation is another way to keep your child's literacy on target.
