What's New This Week
This week's Thursday Folder is a special Wednesday edition due to school closure. It includes information about upcoming conferences and picture retakes. Check out the  information on the Winter Gear Drive and upcoming breakfast dates continued from last week.
Picture Retakes 
Mark your calendar and get ready for Picture Retake Day on Thursday, October 25th, 2012.  If you missed picture day on September 27th and need a picture retake order envelope, please send a note to your child's teacher.  Orders may also be placed on-line through Friday, October 26th with Portrait ID: MI212030Y1 at www.mylifetouch.com.  If your child is having pictures retaken, remember to send the original picture package back to school with your child.
Conference Scheduling

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 7th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday, November 8th from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM here at Birchview Elementary. As a convenience to families, we are again using our web-based scheduling system. This web-based system will open to you starting Monday, October 22nd. To schedule conferences, parents/guardians should use our on-line registration web site: https://pickatime.com/client?ven=11605162&event=240371

 Mrs. Waterfill's name will not be in the automated sign up system. If you would like her to attend your student's teacher conference please let her know the date and time. Or if you would like a specific conference time with her please contact her for an appointment.

Winter Gear Drive

2012 Winter Gear Drive for

Interfaith Outreach Community Partners

Starts October 15th!

 

With cold temperatures right around the corner, many less fortunate families in our area are in great need of winter gear. The Birchview PTA will be starting our annual Winter Gear Drive next month. So get ready to clean out your closets and bring in your donations!

 

From October 15 - November 16th, we will be collecting winter gear items including:

 

Coats, Snow Pants, Boots, Hats, Mittens, Gloves and Scarves

(all sizes from infant to adult)

 

All donated items need to be washed, cleaned and in wearable condition. Donation box will be available outside of the main office. All items will be donated to

Interfaith Outreach Community Partners in Wayzata.

 

Let's help keep families warm again this winter!!!

Birchview Breakfast Dates - Mark Your Calendars!
Last Friday's Kindergarten Breakfast was great fun and we had a terrific turnout. We hope you are able to enjoy the fun with your kids so we're providing the Breakfast dates for the remaining grades in advance. An invitation with more details and an opportunity to volunteer will come home in your child's folder as each date gets closer. Please note: some of these dates have changed to accommodate schedules and may be different than what you have previously seen. They all should be updated in the BV calendar shortly.

Attend School Attendance Area Options Public Meetings

Wayzata Public Schools is currently in the process of studying attendance areas throughout the school district to better align the number of students in each of our seven elementary schools and three middle schools with our facilities' capacities over the coming years. Feedback from parents, staff and community members is an important part of the process.

What's Happening in Community Education?
Young Scientist Roundtable - October 15 at Central Middle School 7pm.  Join Dr. David Garshelis for a conversation about how scientists can assess the conservation needs of bears.

Kung Fu classes starting soon. Gain confidence, get strong physically and mentally and develop leadership skills. Earn your black belt! Classes start October 2.

Holiday Cookies Bake 'n Take - Parent-Child Class! Bake together and in a group. Bring home 6 or more dozen cookies! December 1.

Last Keeper of Split Rock.  What was it like to be the last Keeper of this iconic Minnesota destination? Join us and hear his stories on October 23.

Nature's Fury Science Class - Join us for a design challenge as we explore nature's fury and how our homes and other buildings withstand its onslaught.

Halloween Edible Art - Learn to make some awesome Halloween snacks and get great ideas for your next Halloween party.

Make and Take Your Cake - Learn cake decorating from a professional cake decorator!

Project Runway - Learn to safely use a sewing machine and sew your own clothing! Finish the session with a fashion show for family and friends.
