Jill A. Tardiff
NRGM Committee Chair/Event Manager

NRGM Event Coordinator

WNBA's annual National Reading Group Month takes place in October. An essential component of this program are the events sponsored by the ten WNBA chapters around the country. Each chapter is responsible for presenting one or more events supporting the month's focus on book clubs and reading groups and featuring pertinent books and authors.

In order to maintain high quality and consistency in these author events nationally, the NRGM Chair and NRGM Event Coordinators work with publishers and chapter NRGM contact people to target and confirm the authors who will be featured. All of WNBA's requests for authors and publishers' author recommendations are channeled through the NRGM Chair and Event Coordinator.

Book industry experience working with author events and authors, publicity, publishers (particularly publicists and marketing/sales people), and bookstores is highly desirable for the NRGM Event Coordinator. Applicable non-book industry experience with events and/or publicity is also desirable and useful.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

Researches authors with forthcoming fall or current spring and summer books; develops wish lists considering chapters' regional demographics; confers with NRGM Chair/Event Coordinator on the authors targeted for different chapters to avoid conflicting wish lists and to prioritize the authors requested; helps maintain author-event flow spreadsheet; contacts publishers to request specific authors for specific chapters and to ask for recommendations; meets event confirmation deadlines for chapters which are working within a larger event, such as a city book festival; follows up with both publishers and chapter contacts to decide which authors to include in which chapter events, and confirms these authors with all concerned; requests publicity materials from publishers for the confirmed authors for the chapters; ensures that the chapter contact person and publishers' contact people are actively in communication to follow through on the event; reconfirms event details with chapters prior to the release of all NRGM programming details to the public; reminds chapters to write up their reports and provide photos of their events; follows up after events take place, as needed, to be sure reports, photos, etc. are turned in by the chapters.
