As the "best of" lists are in the eye of the beholder, we offer instead some of our favorite reads. All of the books were read by Library staff members. Some are hot off the press, others have stood the test of time. All come with a personal recommendation.

Show Me the Mummy!

Mummies have been in movies for nearly a century and have captivated western civilization's imagination for even longer. From Victorian England's "high-society" mummy-wrapping parties to their place in modern pop culture, join us on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m. for a walk through the history of the mummy in cinema with Dr. Stephen Phillips, Ph.D. of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. For more information or to make a reservation, please call 570.821.1959.

Become our Friend!

We want you! Volunteer in our community and make friends by joining the Friends of the Osterhout Free Library. This group of volunteers formed shortly after the Agnus Flood of 1972 and began raising funds for the Library through several fundraising activities. In 2014, the Friends raised over $21,000 by selling books at their annual book sale, held each June. Over the last 38 years, the Friends Book Sale has raised almost $400,000! All money raised by the Friends goes directly to supporting the library's mission.
