Money Smart Week

Take advantage of our FREE workshops during Money Smart Week April 5-12! 

 

For Me, For You, For Later: On Thursday, April 10 at 6:30pm, it is never too early to teach your little ones the value of financial education. This program will teach 3 to 5 year olds the first steps to spending, sharing and saving. Call 570-823-0156 ext. 217 to register.  
 
The Road to Financial Fitness: On Friday, April 11 at 1pm, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northeastern Pennsylvania will teach you how to sharpen your financial focus by creating a successful spending plan and setting financial goals. Call 570-821-1959 to register.

 

Easter Crafts and Puppet Show 
The Library will have Easter crafts and a puppet show on Saturday, April 12 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon. following the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association's 6th Annual Easter Egg hunt on Public Square.
 
Then, from 2-3:30 pm, we will have a Reading Is Fundamental free book distribution.

Come hear the story of a Pioneer...
 
Celebrate the unique history of the Osterhout Free Library with us on Saturday, April 26th at
1 p.m. when Bernadette Lear of Penn State Harrisburg visits the Library to give a presentation on our first Librarian, Hannah Packard James. James was Head Librarian from 1887 to 1902 and was an influential pioneer in the field of education.

 

Bernadette Lear is the author of "Yankee Librarian in the Diamond City: Hannah Packard James, the Osterhout Free Library of Wilkes-Barre, and the Public Library Movement in Pennsylvania." Lear will present an informative and interesting program on this provocative, influential, and dedicated Librarian.

National Poetry Month
April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate, we will have Leave a Poem/Take a Poem boxes around the library. Please feel free to take a poem, read it, and pass it along to someone else. Or leave a poem that you love! Or perhaps written?
 
Our literary magazine, Word Fountain, is accepting submissions. In honor of our 125th anniversary, the theme is:  libraries, literature and language. Submission deadline is April 15.

spaghetti Whet your appetite!

The Osterhout's annual Pasta Dinner, Book and Bake Sale will be held at the North Branch, 28 Oliver Street Wilkes-Barre, on Saturday, May 17 from 4-7 p.m. Take-outs will be available after 3 p.m.

 

Tickets are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 8 and under and includes a spaghetti dinner, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage. For more info and to view the flyer, click here.
