November is All About Reading

This month holds several national observances promoting reading. November 1 is National Author's Day and National Family Literacy Day. Recognized by the US Department of Commerce in 1949, National Author's Day honors American writers and their contributions. First held in 1944, National Family Literacy Day is celebrated across the US, focusing on special activities and events that showcase the importance of family literacy programs. National Young Readers Day is an annual event held this year on November 12, that was created by Pizza Hut and Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Schools take this day to invite celebrity guest such as policemen, firemen, parents and other guests to come in and read for the children.
