If you enroll by December 15, 2013, coverage can begin as soon as January 1, 2014. Open enrollment is now through March 31, 2014.
Film Series Partnership With MCPL  and PNC

La Porte County  Public Library, Michigan City Public Library and Purdue University North Central have joined together to present a Major Motion Picture Film Screening to the public for the months of September through November.

For the month of October, La Porte County Public Library will present a viewing of Europa Report, rated PG-13. The viewing at La Porte County Public Library is October 12 at 1pm. Learn more here. Michigan City Public Library will present the documentary Chasing Ice, rated PG-13. The viewing at Michigan City Public Library is October 20 at 2pm.

Join our global day of play at Main on October 5 from 1pm-2pm, and put your imagination to the test! What's the craziest thing you can build out of cardboard? A playhouse? A flower vase? Show us your creativity. We'll provide the supplies as well as some ideas for crafts.  This event is inspired by Caine's Arcade the founding inspiration for the Global Cardboard Challenge.  Check out this video to see how Caine got started.
Indiana Jones Traveling Exhibit  
The Indiana Jones Traveling Exhibit continues its trek in October. The archaeological exhibit, which includes replicas of props used in the movie franchise from Chicago's Oriental Institute, is at the Rolling Prairie branch until the 5th. The next stop will be Union Mills from the 7th to the 12th, Main will house the exhibit from the 14th to the 26th, and  the final destination will be in Kingsford Heights from the 28th to November 1.

What Happens In The Library

When The Lights Go Out? 

Come to the Main Library location October 25 for the very popular What Happens In The Library When The Lights Go Out? from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Kids and their families find out what happens when their favorite book characters come to life. Children are encouraged to wear costumes, but it is not required to participate in this free event that is sure to be an exciting time for all!   

Teen Read Week October 13-19 
Teen Read Week™ is a national literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association. It began in 1998 and is held annually during the third week of October. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. La Porte County Library has programs scheduled during this week including "Explore Forensic Science", on the 15th and "Body, Body" on the 17th, both at Main, and "Book Speed Dating" on the 17th at Coolspring. From Novel to Screen
Many movies are based on novels or short stories and plays.  On October 11 yet another interpretation of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliette starring Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth as the title characters. On October 18, a remake of the 1976 movie based on Steven King's novel, Carrie will be released starring Cloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. on October 31, Ron Rash's Serena, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, will be released. Come to the Library, read, or re-read these titles then compare the theatrical releases to the originals.   
Tech Help at the Library   
 The Library has helpful tech sessions from the Computer Lab this month. Get tips on how to install free software to guard your PC on the 8th from 3pm-4:30pm in the Computer Lab at Main. You'll also get advice on online transactions, emails and social media sites to ensure your personal information stays secure. Also, get one-on-one Tech Help on the 21st at Main from 2pm-5pm. The IT specialists will assist you with any computer questions you may have.
