President's Message: Joey Liebmann

"Service to a just cause rewards the worker with more real happiness and satisfaction than any other venture of life."

~Carrie Chapman Catt~

This past Sunday we celebrated mothers everywhere. Whether you were a new mom celebrating your first Mother's Day, or you were recognizing the sacrifices of your own mother-women everywhere were honored.

Mothers, or even as women, we are taught empathy and compassion for others-children in particular. They are our future and the most vulnerable people in society. We all want our children to have it better than we did. This hope is likely what inspired our founding members to choose children as the focus of Service League's mission. On May 22, 2014 we will host our 2nd annual Basics for Babies Baby Shower. Here we will gather clothing and diapers to support the mothers and children who need our assistance.

As we wrap-up another Mother's Day, hats off to you for all you do working to provide both the children and their mothers/families with the resources they need to be successful in life and in school. Your support of Service League and our programs ensures these families can focus on loving their children and keeping them on the right path.

Very Truly Yours,

Joey Liebmann

SERVICE LEAGUE
BABY SHOWER

DON'T FORGET!! This Thursday evening is the Second Annual Service League Baby Shower. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with your Service League friends for a good cause.

If you join us, we'd appreciate donations of baby hats, size 1 diapers, 0-3 month footed sleepers and 3-6 month footed sleepers. Gender neutral items would be wonderful, but not absolutely necessary. Please avoid references to mommy or daddy (ex. Daddy's Little Girl, Mommy Loves Me, etc.)

A representative from Brown County Health Department will be discussing the needs of infants in our area. We will also be playing a fun game with the chance to win 4 tickets to Encompass' 2014 Oktoberfest.

Date:Thursday, May 22
Time: 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
Place: Encompass Cornerstone Center,
         345 N Broadway, Green Bay
Get to Know:
Bridget Erwin
Bridget hails from Paynesville, Minnesota. She came to the area to attend college at St. Norbert's and never really left the area. She and her husband, Jeff have been married for six years. They live in Allouez with their daughters, Lucy and June, who are both under three years old. She is also an successful attorney at Sigman, Janssen, Sewel, Pitz & Hodgkiss in Appleton. Her practices focuses on estate planning, elder law, real estate and business.

Bridget recently returned to running and is training for the Bellin Run, which is has been fun (most of the time). She also enjoys traveling whenever possible.

Bridget has been a member of both the Big Blue Bash and Back to School Store committees. This year she is co-chairing the Back to School Store committee. She thrives on the positive impact the organization has on the children of Brown County and is always inspired by the momentum that can be gained when so many talented people work together.

When you are volunteering at Back to School Store this year, be sure to say hello to Bridget and thank her for all her hard work!

Poverty is a real issue for our community and it takes a large toll on our children and their futures. There are thousands of children living below the poverty level in Brown County. Their parents struggle to provide food and shelter, so you can imagine the difficulty in providing school supplies and adequate clothing each year.

As we prepare to close out another school year, the hardworking women of the Back to School Store committee are already making preparations to help these children get off to the right start next fall.

We hope we can count on you again this year to make a difference in the lives of 3,000 children and their families.

Here are some ways that you can become involved:
  • Organize a school supply drive at your office or place of worship
  • Volunteer to sort donations, set up the store, or be a shopper or clerk on the big day
  • Make a donation of any size to help us purchase items

Visit our website for more information or to sign up to volunteer now.

We hope to see you at the Baby Shower!
Sincerely,

Service League Marketing Committee
