President's Message: Joey Liebmann

"Service to a just cause rewards the worker with more real happiness and satisfaction than any other venture of life."

~Carrie Chapman Catt~

In the first few days of October, social media is teeming with beautiful pictures of pumpkin patches, trees in peak season and happy families enjoying cooler temperatures. In addition to posting beautiful pictures, many people have shared their love for October. The most commonly posted quote over the past few days seems to have been from Anne of Green Gables, "I'm so glad that I live in a world where there are Octobers." So what is it about October? Is it really the pumpkin and orange? I think most of us would agree that, more magical than a pumpkin spice latte, is the distinct "change of season" that reminds us to count our blessings and celebrate tradition while also pushing us trying something new.

In many ways, Service League is enjoying the same "change of seasons"  that we experience in our personal lives this time of year. Service League's October is met with similar enthusiasm and excitement as we pay tribute to our traditions and embark on new opportunities as well.

We look forward to celebrating the women that represent our rich past: associate members, past presidents and charity ball moms at our November lunch. We acknowledge and celebrate the bright futures of eight graduating seniors at our 81st Charity Ball. We award Notre Dame Academy senior and future Service League member, Ali Lemkuil (Wendy Lemkuil, class of 1997) with the Service League scholarship for her commitment to service in our community. We give Christmas to nearly 100 Encompass children through our Giving Tree project. We honor Nan Bush, our associate of the year, for her dedication to our mission and our projects. We soak up the blessing that is our Service League friendships on our 2nd Annual Chicago Bus Trip November 16th. We work diligently to raise record dollars at our Big Blue Bash (formerly Gala) and fufill our mission, to serve the children of Brown County.

It wouldn't be a true "change of seasons" without trying a little something new too. We are grateful for the opportunity from Big Brothers Big Sisters to prepare a recipe from our Delicious Dining cookbook at their event, Taste of the Town, on November 1st. We eagerly plan our first Associate Cocktail Party, set for May (more details to follow). We dedicate ourselves to making a difference in the lives of Brown County children through new partnerships with non-profits and local businesses.

As you stroll through the pumpkin patch with your family, try to take the perfect Christmas card photo or just listen to the crunching of fallen leaves under your feet, I encourage you to count your many blessings. Whether a Service League associate member, current member, friend or supporter, please remember that we are so grateful for you every season. Without you, we wouldn't be who we are today. As we grow and change, let's celebrate all that Service League is and all it will be in the coming seasons.
