I was born and raised right here in Green Bay and I am truly blessed to have an amazing family. I'm married to a supportive husband who enjoys working in Economic Development, and we have two teenage children. One plays football and excels in track, and the other is active in Student Council, volleyball and loves to dance. We have decided that the kids keep us busy enough between all the extra curricular and volunteer activities that there's just no time left for any pets!

I have been involved with the last three Back to School Stores, and am jumping in with both feet to Co-Chair the 2013 Back to School Store! Every year I look forward to the over 1,500 smiling faces on all those kids as I stand at the front door saying "Are you ready to go shopping?" and they all say "yeah!" and then that door opens, their eyes fill with excitement and the magic begins. Knowing that this act of kindness just might be that needed piece of the puzzle to help these families succeed has been a humbling and rewarding experience...so let's make that magic happen!

Why am I here?

How many times have you thought that very thing when you are sitting in a long committee meeting that was supposed to last an hour and is now going on two?

Or maybe it was learning that the project you have worked so hard on and had such big plans for - just had the budget cut in half because donations were down.

Or perhaps it was the 10th time no one responded to your email regarding a project or request for a donation?

After spending hours on paperwork and starting to fret about one thing or another, my husband asked me this very question. Without hesitation I could tell him that volunteering and Service League in particular, reminds me to count my blessings, gives me a greater sense of purpose and a different kind of fulfillment then my (beloved) current role as wife and mother.

I cannot know for sure why you are here, but I hope from this point forward.....

When someone asks you "what is Service League" (even if you don't have our mission statement memorized), you will respond with a story about your personal experience.

You will want to ask some of your motivated, professional friends and associates to attend The Big Blue Bash because you are proud of what we stand for and all that we accomplish.

Acquiring your hours will no longer be a concern. You are going to be so excited about the variety of volunteer opportunities: Rummage, BTSS, Big Event for Little Kids, the Baby Shower, etc that you will exceed that requirement.

You will walk into a general membership meeting and instead of flocking to your friends, you will step outside your comfort zone and introduce yourself to new people because you realize the opportunity to meet your next new coworker, or another new mom who is experiencing the struggles of work/life balance, or a board member of one of the organizations you wish to get involved in.

.....and you will be remember why you are here.

Respectfully yours,

Courtney Peirce

Here is a sample recipe that is perfect comfort food for the fall weather:

Meat and Potato Pie
Submitted by Kathryn Meyer Gettelman

1 pkg. onion soup mix
1/2 c. seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 c. ketchup, Heinz 57 or barbecue sauce
1 egg
1 lb. ground beef
1 pkg. instant potatoes (preferably garlic)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine soup mix, bread crumbs, ketchup/Heinz 57/barbecue and egg. Season with a dash of salt and pepper. Add ground beef and mix well. (This is a job for your bare hands.) Pat meat mixture into a 9" pie plate. This forms the "shell" of the pie. Bake meat shell until cooked through, about 35 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes and pour off excess fat.

While shell is cooking, whip up instant potatoes (or make your own if you like and have the time). Heap the potatoes in the center of the pie and sprinkle with chives or parsley flakes. Cut into wedges and serve.

Enjoy!
