Associate Corner - Marisa Hanson
Service League Class of 2004

A question and answer with Marisa Hanson

Q: What years were you in Service League?

A: 2004-2009

Q: What was/were your favorite project(s)?

A: When I first joined Service League I have to admit, I wasn't sure what I had really gotten myself into! I was rather new to the community and new to volunteering as part of a large organization. I quickly felt welcomed and part of an amazing group of women who were all working for such a great cause. I started off doing puppets and working on Gala my first year in Service League. I loved being on the puppet team! It was such a joy to travel to schools and teach children about people with disabilities. I served doing puppets for 3 years. I also was involved in Gala (now The Big Blue Bash) for 3+ years. My first year on Gala, and also my first year in Service League was fantastic! I worked on Auction/Raffle--I worked with so many great ladies on this effort. It was also exciting to spread my wings a little and reach out to the community for donations!

Q: Any favorite Service League memories?

A: I have several favorite stories and times from my 5 years in Service League. I would have to however list my favorite memory as my time spent as SL Liaison with Encompass Early Education and Care. I served on the EEEC board for 2 years and I loved it! I loved the people and loved their mission. It was during those 2 years that I realized how VERY much need their really is in our community. I also realized how much we all, those of us in Service League and at Encompass, really strive to give children in our community a brighter tomorrow. It's so moving!

Q: What sorts of things have you been doing since Service League? (community based, work, family, etc)

A: Since I have been done with Service League I still enjoy coming back to volunteer at different times throughout the year at either the Annual Rummage Sale or The Back to School Store, and also The Big Event for Little Kids. The majority of my time however is spent with my family. My husband Mark and I have a 5 year old daughter, a 2 year old son and a 6 month old daughter! Life with them is very energetic, exciting and fun-filled--oh, and did I mention non-stop?! In the summer we spend a lot of time camping up in Minocqua. I also enjoy trying to stay connected to both the Service League actives and associates--it's aways great to see familiar faces around the community!

Q: Any suggestions for getting people involved in community work and or Service League?

A: Service League is such an amazing volunteer opportunity for women and it reaches out to so many families with young children! If you're considering giving it a try, I suggest you just get your feet wet! Come and meet the women and see what Service League is all about. Once you do, you'll quickly realize how you're making an impact on the lives of a child! From that moment forward you'll be ready to dive head-first into Service League!

**Wondering what your former Service League friends and colleagues are up to now? Send us an email with their name and we will add them to our Associate Corner feature list where they can be highlighted in our newsletter! Feel free to email us directly about yourself too - we'd love to feature YOU!

Anyone For a Round of Golf?

DePere Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing

The De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce has selected Service League of Green Bay as its Charity Partner for their 3rd Annual Golf Outing! This event is being presented by Chris Battle & Bernie Van Epren of MetLife, Comfort Control Systems, Johnson Bank, Johnson Insurance and NEW Wall Street. It will take place on Friday, July 27th at Ledgeview Golf Course, with a pre-event Vintner's Dinner July 26th at Echota Gardens.

This fun, non-competitive event (though it does have prizes and winners for the competitors amongst us), features a full lunch, a steak dinner and an early bird pricing for foursomes! Service League will be given a "hole sponsorship", and various marketing materials for this event will feature Back to School Store needs and donations. Service League will also be selling mulligans as a fundraising effort!

Make sure to check out this great event online for more information on playing, eating & volunteering! Click here for more information!

Thank you all for your continued support of Service League and all we do. Your dedication to our organization and our mission is what makes it all possible. Warm wishes from all of us at Service League!

Sincerely,
