Welcome to the first official edition of Service League's electronic newsletter! We are excited to share this with you each month, and hope you find that it is an easier way to stay in contact with Service League members and the activities we are working on. Please do not hesitate to email us with your questions, feedback or suggestions - we would love to hear from you!
We would also like to apologize for those of you that received a similar looking email to this one last week. Our intention was to only send you the "Welcome" newsletter, but sent a blank template as well. As this is a new endeavor for us, we expect to experience hiccups along the way, so we thank you for your patience!
Project Profile: The Giving Tree
Helping provide a happier Christmas for children in need
|Laura Kahl, Giving Tree Coordinator|
Every year Service League partners with Encompass to help children in Brown County who are in need. During the holiday season, Service League receives the names and ages of children from Encompass Centers who would not be able to have a Christmas without the help of others.
Many family circumstances may contribute to hardships for these individuals and Service League makes sure that these children are able to celebrate the joy and magic of the season.
The Giving Tree gives Service League members the opportunity to answer these children's Christmas wishes. In previous years our organization has provided Christmas for over 100 children in Brown County! This year is one of our largest ever with over 180 children requesting our help. They are comprised of all ages, families large and small. If you would like to provide Christmas this year for one of these children, please contact our Giving Tree coordinator, Laura Kahl at email@example.com.
|Back to School Store 2011|
A Great Success!
I want to share with some highlights of the Store, that without your support, we might not have accomplished:
- 1,513 children ages 5K - 5th grade registered
- 1,500 filled middle-school backpacks donated
- 29 local schools and agencies participated
- Over 700 volunteers gave their time
Several of the volunteers were past participants in benefiting from the store, you may have seen one mother and her son featured on Good Day Wisconsin the morning of the store sharing their story.
Their experience was repeated during the day with other families.
Another family stands out for all of us. They all came to the store (a family of 4) and worked a double-shift, apologizing when they left that they couldn't stay longer, but Dad had to go work his 3rd shift job. They left and then the oldest son came back into the volunteer room and handed us $5. Again, apologizing that they couldn't do more, but wanting to do what they can and thanking US for the Back to School Store! It won't surprise you to know it drove us all to tears and energized us for the end of a very long day!
The 2012 Back to School Store is already in planning for August 8th at East High School and we wil keep you informed!
