Praise God for Dave and Will!
We celebrated David Moyer and William Klopp's 33-year relationship Sunday, with song and prayer, family and friends, bread and wine--right in the middle of our Sunday service! The photo shows some of the family and friends who gathered. It was a beautiful day in the life of the parish!

Sunday, May 4, at Grace
| | Eucharist, socializing, vestry
We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00. The gospel is the story of Jesus meeting two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They knew it was Jesus "in the breaking of the bread."
For the complete scripture readings, click the link above left.
After the service, we enjoy coffee and conversation with each other and our visitors. A vestry meeting will follow.

Grace Community Foundation
| | Grant enables good work to continue
More good news at Grace: Our pantry (Grace Community Foundation) received a $20,000 grant from the Trexler Trust!
The Trust has supported our neighborhood work for many years, and we are truly grateful. With their help, our pantry is able to distribute emergency food to about 325 households each month in our 18102 zip code. The need is great. Volunteers help with food distribution under the leadership of pantry director Patty McNamara and in an atmosphere of kindness and welcome.
The pantry is a place of hospitality not only for the people who receive food but for volunteers as well. Some of our regular volunteers are from the Community Corrections Center on Hamilton Street--they are on the way out of prison for nonviolent offenses and back to ordinary life. At the pantry, they find a place where their dignity is respected, their contributions are valued, and they are treated with kindness. For many, it is a very welcome change.

Becoming Episcopalian | | Two at Grace to take next step on May 6!
Bob H and George R have both been part of Grace for more than two years--and they've decided it's time to formalize their relationship with the Episcopal Church. Both grew up in other Christian traditions and explored other paths as adults, and now they have found a home in this communion and at Grace.
Bishop Sean Rowe will leading a regional service to welcome officially ("receive") Bob and George and others in our area on Tuesday, May 6, at 7:00 pm. Our priest will participate, and Addison B will read one of the scriptures at the service. The service is at St. Andrew's, on the border of Allentown and Bethlehem. Whoever can go and support this step for our brothers in faith is welcome! A reception will follow the service.

Parish Fundraising | | Yard Sale, May 3, WescosvilleThe Fundraising Committee has organized a yard sale for this Saturday, May 3. Mike A and Tony V will host it; they live near the intersection of East Texas Road and Brookside Road. This location will enable nonparishioners to shop and support the work of Grace. Chris D is coordinating the event; please contact him for details. Another simple fundraiser is in progress: coupons to use when purchasing plants or flowers at Dan Schantz's. The greenhouse will donate 20% of each purchase made with a coupon to Grace Church. The coupons are in the hallway at church--take some and share with friends! Or, email the church office and a sheet of coupons can be sent to you. |
Scholarship Fundraiser
| | Plan now to attend Please put Friday night, May 16, on your calendar--it's the Annual Scholarship Benefit Auction for Grace Montessori School. The event will be held at the Allentown Brew Works at 7:00. It features a silent auction, a live auction, hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and music. Admission tickets are available at the door. All proceeds benefit the school's scholarship fund, which exists because our parish and our school value economic diversity. Our school offers scholarship assistance to about one-third of its students. Some money comes from grants from local foundations, and a sizable amount comes from a single fund-raising event, the Annual Scholarship Benefit Auction. Please plan to attend if at all possible and support early-childhood education for children in our neighborhood. Members of the vestry will be there, and previous participants can attest that the evening will be a delightful one!
