Sunday, August 25, at Grace
Eucharist, refreshments Christ healing woman bent over

We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00. In the gospel passage, Jesus heals a woman who has been bent over for 18 years, and he does it on the Sabbath. The synagogue leaders call him on the carpet for working on the Sabbath. If you had been there, what do you think your response would have been?

After the Eucharist, we gather for refreshments.

Pride in the Park
Seven parishes worked together

People from seven Lehigh Valley parishes staffed the Episcopal tent at Pride in the Park last Sunday. We greeted folks at the festival and gave out parish brochures, information on same-sex blessings, and chip clips with a church logo. Most important, we chatted personally with people--offering simple human conversation in the name of God and the church.

From Grace, Ethel Gibbon, David Moyer, and the Rev. Beth Reed helped at the booth, and several other parishioners wished us well while they enjoyed the festivities. (Photo courtesy of Scott Allen)

Book Group
On the road camino

Some parishioners have been gathering in the summer for at least eight years to enjoy reading a book together and talking about it, and eating and drinking while we do those things.

The book we are reading now is Pilgrim Stories: On and Off the Road to Santiago, by Nancy Louise Frey. This week we will also watch part of the movie The Way starring Martin Sheen.

We will meet next on August 25 at the Moodys', September 8 at the Reeds', and September 15 (place TBA). All are welcome! For more information, contact Mary Louise B.
Pantry Fundraiser

Let's go to Louie's

When anyone goes to Louie's Restaurant September 15-19 and presents a special flyer, the restaurant will donate 20% of the food bill to Grace Community Foundation. Patrons can eat in or take out. The pantry is grateful for this support.

Flyers are available at church and in the pantry. Click here for more info on the restaurant (2071 31st Street SW, Allentown).

The pantry uses the money to buy food for clients and to pay administrative costs. It serves about 325 households each month in the 18102 zip code.
Midday Quiet Prayer

We hope to start in September

The vestry and other parishioners plan to begin hosting a daily midday prayer service later in September.

The plan is to have the church open every day at lunch time and welcome downtown neighbors and workers to a place and time of quiet prayer.

Grace Montessori School
We're set for a new year

Grace's teachers and administrators, as well as the Rev. Beth Reed and vestry member Dr. Joe Cousart, welcomed new children and their parents to school for orientation Friday morning. The children got to meet their teachers and see their classrooms, and the parents learned about Montessori philosophy and the routines that will help the children transition easily to our school. Below, Program Director Radhika Hoshing presents information to parents.
