Diocesan Ordinations
We will have some new priests

Andrew Reinholz and his wife, Kim, will be ordained as priests this Sunday. The ordination liturgy is scheduled for 4:00 pm, Sunday, June 30, at Church of the Mediator (1620 West Turner Street).

Parishioners and people from across the diocese are welcome to attend and share in the celebration!
Literacy Center

Several students received their GED

Three mornings each week during the school year, our multipurpose room is a hive of activity, as teachers help students work on the knowledge and skills they need to get the GED credential. Often the activity spills in to the conference room next door, as a math tutor works with a smaller group.

Each June, the Literacy Center holds its graduation ceremony; this year it was June 17 at the Barristers Club. At least half a dozen people who have been studying at Grace passed their tests and received their credentials! We wish them all the best.

The Literacy Center used the space at Grace Church for free; this is one way we share our resources with the community at large, hoping to help our neighbors in ways that really matter.

We partner with Second Harvest

Second Harvest is a key resource for the food our pantry procures for our neighbors; this food bank is part of a national network of such banks, and they are part of the hunger relief organization Feeding America.

A few weeks ago, volunteers with our local Second Harvest food bank spent the morning in our pantry. They interviewed clients and invited their participation in a national survey called Hunger in America 2013. Those who agreed answered a 20-minute questionnaire with a volunteer regarding household income, education, how often they come to the pantry and for how long they have been coming, number of people in their households, etc. The information will help the organization document the need for and the use of its resources.

Our pantry serves about 325 households each month in our zip code, and the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania serves about 69,000 people in its six-county region.

Midday Quiet Prayer
candlelight
We'll start later in the summer

The vestry and others parishioners had hoped to begin hosting a daily midday quiet service next week. The plan is to have the church open every day at lunch time and welcome downtown neighbors and workers to a place and time of quiet prayer. Some parishioners are working on avenues for publicity, and plans will be tested and refined so this practice can begin as soon as is reasonably possible. Stay tuned!
Parish Picnic
Write it down: Sunday, August 18

The Denton-Borhaugs have offered their house and yard (and pool and croquet court!) for a parish picnic again this summer, on August 18. There was a great turnout last year--we enjoyed the pool, the food, the socializing, the kids and adults together, etc. This is a social event with no other agenda than enjoying each other's company and the summer. Later in the summer there will be sign up sheets to bring food and drinks, but save the date now, if you can!
