Eucharist, conversation

We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00.

In the first reading, we hear about Tabitha, the only woman specifically called a disciple in the New Testament. She was a valued part of her community, and "she was devoted to good works and acts of charity," St. Paul wrote.

What other qualities does a disciple have?

After the service, we gather for coffee and conversation.

How did it go?

In our preparation and celebration of the Paschal Triduum this year, as in every year, we made some refinements to how we celebrated it the year before. Each year in the Easter Season, we spend a little time reviewing and reflecting on the liturgies.

This practice helps us name the high points and low points of the celebrations as we experienced them. We converse about what parts of the rites especially helped us listen to God and praise and pray. We brainstorm ideas for deeper prayer and wider involvement for the next year. We consider how we shared the work of preparation and set-up and leadership and how we may want to refine such practices.

This year's review will be next Sunday, April 28, after church. Every voice is welcome!
Grace Community Foundation
pantry spring 2013
The pantry has been busy

This morning 61 households received food from our pantry. The pantry opens at 9:00; at that time there were 44 people waiting in line. The need in this neighborhood is deep.

Here are the numbers for March: The pantry served 312 families, 28 seniors, 545 adults, and 378 children. There were 61 new clients last month.

When I (Beth Reed) visit with people who come to the pantry, I ask them how they're doing, etc. Today a gentleman said, "I'd be a lot worse off if you all weren't here." I said, "Yes, I'm glad we're here for you, and I wish that the situation were different and no one needed to be here." He concurred.
Grace Montessori School's Benefit Auction
Our main fund-raiser is next Friday

Please put Friday night, April 26, on your calendar--it's the Annual Scholarship Benefit Auction for Grace Montessori School. The event will be held at the Allentown Brew Works at 7:00. It features a silent auction, a live auction, hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and music.

Admission tickets are available at the door. Buying raffle tickets is another way to support the event: See Pam A after church on Sunday, and she will happily take your $20 bill and give you 5 tickets in return. (She will also happily take a five and give you one ticket.)

All proceeds benefit the school's scholarship fund, which exists because our parish and our school value economic diversity. Our school offers scholarship assistance to about one-third of its students. Some money comes from grants from local foundations, and a sizable amount comes from a single fund-raising event, the Annual Scholarship Benefit Auction.

Please plan to attend if at all possible and support early-childhood education for children in our neighborhood. Many members of the vestry will be there, and previous participants can attest that the evening will be a delightful one!
