Sunday, April 8, at Grace | | Eucharist, conversation, vestry meeting
We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00. Our Easter celebration is only beginning: for six whole weeks we revel in the new life Jesus offers. The church is fragrant and the colors are joyful.
Our gospel text gives us Thomas, typically called "Doubting Thomas." Read the scripture again (click to the left on "Sunday Scriptures")--is doubting the only interpretation we could give to the story? How would you face the moment Thomas faced? This week we welcome Deacon Andrew Reinholz as our preacher.
After coffee and sweets and conversation, the vestry will meet in the downstairs conference room. All parishioners are welcome to attend. |
Book Group | | The next meeting is this Sunday
Some parishioners enjoy reading and discussing a book together a few times a year. The book group is now reading The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach about Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem. Dr. Kelly Denton-Borhaug, religion department chair and professor at Moravian College, leads the discussion.
The group met on March 17 and examined the first part of the book, and the group will meet on Sunday, April 7, at 6:00 to discuss the second half. The Brosses will host and provide beverages; others are asked to bring snacks and appetizers. Anyone who wants to join the conversation is welcome! |

Grant money put to good use
The food pantry received a grant this year from the New Hope Foundation (part of the Diocese of Bethlehem). It allows us to purchase almost $700 of baby supplies each month--diapers, wipes, formula, soap--to distribute to families in need. These items are relatively expensive and other assistance programs (food stamps, for example) do not cover them. Our neighbors are appreciating that we now stock these items.

Easter Festivities | |
Hearts and hands and voices joined
Holy Week, especially the Paschal Triduum, is our most intense time of the year at church. Many people were in and out all week: rehearsing for the liturgies, arranging the space, setting out flowers, assisting with bulletin preparation, practicing music, getting candles ready, and preparing for the Easter Vigil reception. It was a strong experience of working and praying and living together with God and each other.
Here are quotes from people who celebrated Easter here for the first time:
- "What a gift it has been this week at Grace!"
- "What a joy to worship at Grace over the Triduum . . . I felt very connected to the community."
 | Pam, Mari, and Jas prepare candles for the Vigil. |
 | Merce, August, and John rehearse. |
 | Hillie figured we could make our palm arrangement work for Easter by adding a few flowers! |
