Sunday, March 17, at Grace | |
Eucharist, coffee and conversation
We celebrate the Eucharist at 10:00. The gospel passage tells of Mary anointing the feet of Jesus and wiping them with her hair. This action scandalized the disciples. Can you imagine performing such a gesture? Can you imagine receiving such a ministration? What do you make of Jesus' response?
This Sunday's bulletin includes a new communication called DioLight. It is from Bishop Paul Marshall, and he will be sending it twice a month to encourage and to share information with all the people of the Diocese of Bethlehem.
There are sign-up sheets in the gathering space for refreshments for the Easter Vigil reception and for tasks related to the Triduum liturgies; please look at both and consider how you can participate. |
Evening Prayer in Lent | |
We gather for quiet prayer
One opportunity to join in quiet respite at church remains this Lent: this Wednesday at 6:00. We gather in silence and pray and sing in candlelight.
Here's what participants have said: "This is so peaceful." "I really feel God's presence here." "I love the silence." "I really need this in the middle of the week." "It's lovely to be in the church at night."
|
Book Group | | Let's bring our questions
Some parishioners enjoy reading and discussing a book together a few times a year. For Lent, the book is The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach about Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem. Dr. Kelly Denton-Borhaug, religion department chair and professor at Moravian College, will lead the discussion.
The group will meet on two Sunday nights, March 17 and 24, at 6:00 pm. The Brosses will host on the 17th; the second location will be announced.
Anyone who wants to join the conversation is welcome!

Easter Flowers | | Donations gratefully accepted
The fragrance of lilies, the brightness of tulips, the scent of hyacinths: these say "Easter" as surely as our paschal candle and our Easter feast. The church does not have a budget for such items; rather, we request donations each year to cover this expense. If you would like to contribute, there will be a floral-covered box in the gathering space for the next two Sundays. Donations may also be mailed to the church and marked "Easter Flowers."
One custom at Grace is to remember our deceased loved ones (Memorials), as well as particular living people or groups we are grateful for (Thanksgivings), by printing their names in our Easter and Christmas bulletins. If you would like to have loved ones included in this list, you have several options: - Email the parish administrator with the names (hillie.cousart@graceallentown.org)
- Fill out a form in the gathering space and place it in the floral- covered box
- Call the parish administrator at 610-435-0782 between 8:30 and 12:30 weekdays
Donations for flowers can be made with or without Memorials and Thanksgivings, and Memorials and Thanksgivings can be requested with or without a donation.

Worship Support for the Triduum | | "Many hands make light work"
Our Easter celebration spans three nights (Paschal Triduum) and includes our most cherished liturgies: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. Each liturgy has set-up or other tasks that go beyond what we normally do on Sundays. There are many opportunities for young people and adults to participate in the preparation and celebration of these liturgies.
Here are just some of the tasks: - Prepare the Chapel of Reservation (for Maundy Thursday) by hanging lanterns in the gathering space and setting out votive candles
- Arrange for the Easter Vigil fire by bringing a fire pit, wood, and doing set-up and clean-up
- Bake the sweet, rich bread for our Easter communion
- Help carry the Cross for Good Friday's veneration
- Prepare candles with drip catchers for all to use at the Easter Vigil
- Arrange the chairs for all three services
- Ring wind chimes in the procession that concludes the Easter Vigil
- Help adorn the worship space with flowers on Holy Saturday morning
A sign-up sheet will be available on Sunday after church in the gathering space; it has a complete list of tasks and what they require and how many people are needed. Please look at it and see how you and your household can participate.
If you are unable to be at church this Sunday and would like to assist, please call the office. |
Grace Montessori School | | Support our main fund-raiser
Our parish and our school value economic diversity. To that end, our school offers scholarship assistance to about one-third of its students. Some money comes from grants from local foundations, and a sizable amount comes from a single fund-raising event, the Annual Scholarship Benefit Auction. Please put Friday night, April 26, on your calendar and plan to attend and support early-childhood education for children in our neighborhood. The event will be held at the Allentown Brew Works. It features a silent auction, a live auction, hors d'oeuvres, and music. |
