Go big or stay safe?

After a recent discussion with a group of fellow Qi Gong practitioners, I realized many people's perception of me is not the one I have of myself. Many folks seemed surprised I would have a hard time or feel nervous being in front of a group of people, teaching, singing, etc. This came as a surprise to me since, as long as I can remember, I have been painfully shy and apprehensive about any kind of crowd. I guess I must hide it well. My husband pontificated, "Well, maybe that's the art of it, making it look easy and seamless."

Sometimes it's easy to forget that nothing usually "just comes easy" or "falls right in to place" for the majority of us, even for those of us who hide it well.

My friends, it has been a lifetime of work to appear an extrovert, and I'm sure I'm not alone (I can see some of you nodding your heads). And though it has become more subtle over time, there is always some part of me that wants to crawl in a hole, cover myself up, and stay hidden.

Someone asked me, "So how do you do it then?" I answered, "Where does it get me to stay hidden? To stay small?" I have to give myself no other choice.

When we are up to something big, meaning when we actually follow our hearts and our path, the ego knows it and puts up a fight because it knows the heart will annihilate it, quite possibly to shreds. It knows it has no chance of survival and so begins the kicking and screaming, the feeling of fear often to the brink of paralysis.

This is about being our "big-ness," and we can't go big if we stay safe -- if we surround ourselves with the comfortable, the mundane, and the predictable. When we step out of that, we find something magical. It doesn't mean it isn't hard and terrifying in the journey, but we find a freedom from our fear, and that means an opportunity to be what we never thought we would be. So what do ya say? Shall we uncover ourselves and crawl out? I'm game if you are...

for a Transcending Experience in Pangu Yoga

What students are saying about Pangu Yoga . . .

I really, truly loved your class. You did a great job explaining master Ou's philosophy and practice. I know I had heard it before, but this time it seemed to make sense to me on a deeper level of understanding. And you were concise but thorough.

Golden rays of light

The practice was a nice combo of movement and stillness. I do appreciate it when an instructor moves around the room as it makes me feel I am in "good hands." You are watching me to make sure I am doing it right and getting the best experience, and you are in tune with the participants. It was nice to have you move to the back, so we could all see you without having to rearrange ourselves which is disruptive to my "mojo!"

I look forward to making Tuesday morning a regular part of my week. I am looking forward to using your CD at home when I can't get to a class and "need" a practice.

Autumn: The season of the Metal Element
Stay balanced with Acupuncture as the seasons change

A time of decreasing light, increasing cold, and shorter days, Autumn is a time when trees lose their leaves as they withdraw their energy internally. Autumn is also the time of the Metal Element.

In the individual, the Metal Element represents internal resolve and strength, self-worth, self-esteem, vitality, and endurance, as well as the ability to let go of emotional upsets and grudges. The associated  systems are the lungs, skin, and colon. When the Metal Element is out of balance, we may experience depression and sadness, an inability to recover from loss, lack of inspiration, rigidity, poor self-esteem, excessive materialism, and emotional withdrawal. Physical symptoms of the imbalance include asthma, rhinitis, eczema and other skin disorders, constipation, and lower bowel disorders.

A change in season is always a good time to get balanced with Acupuncture. When the Metal Element is balanced, it represents a connection to one's own self:  you know your own self-worth; you respect others and yourself; and you are willing to give and receive acknowledgment for the magnificent being you are. Metal type people like minimalism; they are organized, clean, and contained. They also can be controlling, ambitious, forceful, and set in their ways -- as metal is very strong -- and they are self-reliant and prefer to handle their problems alone.

Although Metal represents the biological and spiritual Father, it is yin/feminine in nature; its motion is inward, and its energy is contracting. Metal represents the minerals, crystals, and gems of the world -- the metal aspect is the diamond found within each one of us.

If you identify with a mental position, then if you are wrong, your mind-based sense of self is seriously threatened with annihilation. So you as the ego cannot afford to be wrong. To be wrong is to die. Wars have been fought over this, and countless relationships have broken down.
