Participant Spotlight: LeAnn Westbrook

LeAnn Westbrook is one of the more recent additions to the LLM family and she has already become the life of the party. Her kindness, humor, compassion, sharp wit, and propensity for theatrics has garnered her much love.

When LeAnn came to LLM over the summer she was on a walker with severe knee pain. We would soon discover that her robust personality was somewhat blunted by the constant ache when she walked. Her sisters had been working towards getting her the necessary surgery, but had been met with resistance. After several consultations and the realization that the pain was not originating in her knee, but actually caused by the deterioration of the joint in her hip the orthopedic surgeon said he would be unable to perform the surgery because he didn't think LeAnn could make it through rehab.

Progressively LeAnn's pain increased. The LLM team worked with LeAnn to minimize her discomfort, but it was rare to make it through the day without tears shed. LeAnn's sisters were persistent and finally referred to a doctor at UK. They spoke to the doctor about the issues to which he immediately replied, "Let's do it."

LeAnn received her hip replacement in December with no complications. She finished rehab a week ahead of schedule. She has no restriction in her movement, and will soon be off the walker completely.

"It's been an incredible journey," Susan, LeAnn's sister said, "I would have never thought this was possible. We were at Christmas with the family and she was walking without the walker, and would stop and just do a shimmy. Her attitude, her happiness, her ability to laugh and joke has been amazing. She's a little spit-fire."

Susan's hope is that by sharing LeAnn's story it will create hope in other families to never take no for an answer. When you only see closed doors around you, it means you need to keep walking a little further, or, in LeAnn's case running.
End of Year Slideshow

The Psalmist writes, "Unless the LORD builds this house, those who build it labor in vain." That has been our humble prayer from the outset. Every success and failure we've had is the Lord's. It is He who built this house, and we do not labor in vain.
LLM Presents: Carson Childers

Carson Childers is one of those people you think of when you read the verse in Ecclesiastes, "A good name is better than fine perfume." He is never mentioned without recognition of the impact his work has had and praise regarding his high character.

Carson has been with LLM for over two-years. In that time he has changed the lives of many. He has been with one participant since the start of his employment with LLM. In that time their has been a major reduction in negative behaviors, an increase in both social and communication abilities, and a bond created that has enhanced the participant's life.

Carson is currently attending Asbury University. His passion is music. He plays regularly at Southland Christian Church and performs gigs with former American Idol contestant Lauren Mink. He is recently engaged to the love of his life, Kaytlin. They are high school sweethearts and plan to tie the knot this September.

While speaking with Paige, the HR Director, about Carson she stated, "He's one of the most thoughtful and conscientious people I know." Carson's favorite part about working at LLM is getting to know the families and having the opportunity to offer different perspectives on how to help the participants learn new skills.

Lord's Legacy is blessed to have the opportunity to serve alongside Carson. We have learned much from him.
Holding Grace - A Blog From the Heart

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free..." - Luke 4:18

When it comes to Apple updates I am usually the last to comply. I always want the benefit of being up - to - date with my devices; however, the thought of sitting down and waiting for the update makes me cringe. My husband, Travis, on the other hand, a pure tech-whiz by nature, is the first to know when the updates are available. He never wastes time. He and I operate at a different pace when it comes to these updates and only one of us is willing to slow down to make the update happen.

This reminds me of how we are in our relationship with Jesus. Most will come to know of His saving power, but due to lack of knowledge, few will experience their full potential while here on earth, unaware that the Holy Spirit has been given to us as believers to work mightily in and through our lives. The Spirits' job is to enable us to reach beyond our own ability and to move through His Supernatural empowering on a daily basis.

This New Year Season, let's take the time to update together. We have access to the highest power Source in the universe. The greatest advantage of our source is having a relationship with Him and desiring to grow in communion with His followers. There is so much potential on the inside of us. Lets give permission to the Holy Spirit to unleash His ability through us and transform us more into the image of Jesus by caring for the poor, proclaiming His good news, sharing about freedom to those that are captive, and setting the oppressed and blind free! Lets determine in 2016 to live the life of supernatural abilities through the enabling of His Spirit on the inside of us!

Gratefully,
Megann Lilley

Christmas Extravaganza

Faith United once again opened their doors to the LLM family, providing us a space to praise and worship our King. For those who couldn't make it, Nick Cooper and Courtney Clark from Mosaic Lexington led us in worship and Christmas carols. A message was delivered about the beautiful indignity of Christ, reminding us that God has a tendency to meet us in the most undignified and ugly places of our lives. We had communion to remember the price paid for our salvation and afterwards broke bread together. One of the most treasured events of the year, we are truly thankful for all who contributed and took part in the celebration. God has immensely blessed LLM.
