Celebration Baptism

Don't forget to mark your calendars to join us for Celebration Baptism on September 20th, from 1PM-3PM. For the third year we will be breaking barriers for people who desire to be baptized but have been unable to access the baptismal due to disability.

If there is anyone who would like to be saved or has been saved, but did not have the opportunity to be water baptized due to physical and/or accessibility reasons, we would like to welcome you to this celebration. Adaptive equipment will be provided to remove the barriers. If you have a pastor who has led you to Christ, they are welcome to participate in the baptism.

Water Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Water baptism also allows believers to publicly testify of their born-again experience. This is an outward sign and testimony of inward grace. The believer has been crucified with Christ, buried with Him, and raised together with Him to walk in the newness of life. The baptismal waters represent a burial ground. When you're buried with Christ in baptism, you are proclaiming to heaven, earth, and hell that the old you no longer exists. To be buried with Jesus means that your old self died to sin just as Jesus did when He was made sin for us (Romans 6: 3, 6, 10-12). That's why we are immersed. It's a picture of burial and resurrection.

This event is open to the community. All are welcome to come celebrate with us.

LLM Presents: Daniel Ross

Dan has only been with Lord's Legacy a few short months and has quickly become an outstanding member of the team. "He never has to be asked to do things," Sara Riggs, Day Training Manager says, "He never complains and is eager to learn. When teaching the participants, he makes sure they actually know and understand the concepts."

Before coming to Lord's Legacy, Dan was a minister at the University of Kentucky where he graduated with a degree in Social Work. Dan isn't sure what God's call on his life is yet, but he knows that he wants to continue serving others and glorifying God in his work. Dan's favorite part about working at LLM so far is getting to know the participants and spending time with them.

Lord's Legacy is incredibly grateful for the heart Dan has to serve and love others to the glory of Christ.
Holding Grace: A Blog from the Heart
"Generous. Poured Out. Refreshed."

"Remember this -a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others... For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you."  (2 Cor. 9:6-10)

Growing up, I was SELFISH! From the earliest I can remember I would hoard my belongings and say the words, "Mine!" NO ONE was allowed to touch my things! I recall carrying that mentality through the earliest part of my adult life... not necessarily snarling and saying the words, "mine" but, it continued to be the condition of my lifestyle until I was challenged with the concept of, it is better to give than receive. I always thought, "Sure, those are nice words, until it is your money that is being given!" WOW. As you can see, I had some serious issues to work through.

The Lord is so tender and so kind to meet us wherever we are in life. As a result, giving is one of my favorite topics to talk about! I believe that, "Only when we learn to water the lives of others, will we become continually refreshed by God." In a world where we are told to keep, store up, and protect what is yours, the kingdom of heaven says, "Give and more will be given to you..." (Mal. 3:8-12)

If we are going to live generous lifestyles the first thing we should do is determine to live a generous life. We determine to live a generous life by dedicating that area of your heart to Christ! There is no greater compliment to a follower of Jesus than being known by the fruit or characteristics that displays who Christ is through our actions.

Secondly, I believe we need to find out what God says about living a generous life and why He cares about it so much. Some of my favorite scriptures about generosity are found in: James 2:14-15 and Matt. 25:35-40. I have tried to make my life generous by my own will and failed. Only when I surrendered my will to Christ did He transform the hardness of selfishness into the overflow of love and a giving heart! I am no where near perfect when it comes to living generously all the time; however, I do know where I used to be, and thankfully, He has done a 180 in my heart.

Lastly, I would say a key ingredient to living a generous lifestyle would be to live in want for nothing! Like I said before, I was a self consumed person! Mostly due to the fact I always wanted something else. I had bought into the lie to never be satisfied with what you have; there is always something better! Now I have tasted both the contentment that comes from having enough in Christ and the poison of "never having enough" in the world. The mindset of never enough will rob you of joy. Living in constant comparison will depress you. Choosing Christ as your God and not stuff will free you just like it has me.

My prayer for you today is that you would experience the richness of living with Christ as the center of your life. Through Him we do all things because He gives us strength. If you feel hardened to give the way you know Christ is leading you to, ask Him to invade that area of your life with His love. Love is the perfect weapon that will cast off all restraints within. Love will cause us to flourish and through love we are able to live generously, poured out, and refreshed by God.

Enriched by His love,

Meg

LLM also Presents: Rebecca Elliston...again

You may remember Rebecca from a previous newsletter. At that time we were highlighting her for her amazing abilities as a Direct Support Professional. That was several months ago and now that she has over a year and a half of experience under her belt, we have cause to recognize her again.

It is well known around the office that Rebecca has brought Lord's Legacy's supports to a new standard. On any typical day the office speaks of solving problems in this manner, "We just need to throw an Elliston at it." which would immediately bring about a perfect solution. Once an Ellison is applied, the problem never reoccurs again.

As it turns out though, we've only found one Elliston so far and since she can't be everywhere at once she is serving the participants she does work with both diligently and passionately.

In her free time, Rebecca enjoys going to the Gorge with friends, laughing, and snowboarding. Becca's values include spirituality, friends, and family. Her favorite LLM moment was when an individual she works with began speaking words that he has never said before.

We can't express how thankful we are that Rebecca has blessed us and the participants of LLM so greatly.
