A Letter from the Executive Director

As we finally shake off the snow from this long winter and embrace spring, Lord's  Legacy is ready to take on a new season. Over the next few months, we will be going through some structural and administrative changes. As always, please contact the office if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. We are very excited about the new opportunities that will be taking place!

During the next few weeks, you will notice a little more dust when you come visit us. LLM is gaining three new suites that will be connecting to our current space. We will be expanding one suite to the left and two suites to the right. This will give us an opportunity to expand our administrative offices and the space for our ADT center. The administrative side will be gaining new training space, a larger conference room, and additional offices. The build out for the ADT will include new bathrooms with showering space, a new open area for our health and wellness equipment, and the ADT kitchen will be renovated to include a larger area for increased cooking group opportunities, a commercial fridge, and microwave station for lunches.

LLM's administrative structure will be changing some as well. After much hard work and dedication to the organization, John McCurry will be promoted to the Assistant Executive Director position. He will continue to work alongside me as part of the Executive team. I am confident in his abilities to continue leading the ministry to amazing places. John has been an incredible team member for the administration for the past three years and worked as a Direct Support Staff Member for a year prior to graduating from UK and moving into an administrative position. His heart to serve and his dedication to the success of LLM are unmatched.

Please feel free to come by the office and see the amazing things that are happening. As always, we thank you for your continued support.

The neighbor who teaches at the local high school? Fulfilling work, but they'll still want to come here. Your nephew in college who is living off Ramen Noodles but is somehow still putting on the "Freshman Fifteen," send 'em our way. The LLM family is like none other. So grab that now hiring sign off the door and come on in. We'll offer you a place to stand and room to stretch out your hands; we'll give you a fire that can't be contained in a hearth. Join us as we change the world.

A Heartfelt Goodbye

After much praying and searching, my husband has accepted a position with a company

in Indianapolis. It is time to say farewell to Kentucky and Lord's Legacy. It has been an absolute privilege and delight to spend my last 3 years with you all! I will never forget the relationships that I've forged with participants, families, and staff and the priceless moments of joy and humility I have experienced. I have learned more about how to genuinely serve and love both the Lord and others over the past 3 years than the rest of my life collectively. I just want to thank each and every one of you for your support, love, kind words, and encouragement and ask you to keep my husband and me in your prayers as we embark on a new journey.

Holding Grace - A blog from the heart

"Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!" Psalm 46: 10 (AMP)

We live in a busy nation, a nation that screams at us, "Go Faster!" We become over booked, over worked, and with the feeling we must always say yes. Facebook, twitter, and other social media demands of us any precious minutes left for ourselves. All the while we are shaking our heads in dismay, thinking, "There is just not enough time in the day." We are so busy that we miss the "be still" command of God, when it is essential in our walks. We must learn to slow down and focus on God in the midst of our demanding schedules. The Bible speaks well of labor; however, if it is taking our peace and joy by replacing the character of Christ in us with a character that is not reflective of Christ's, we must examine our steps. The still moments are vital. When we are still we more clearly hear the voice of God, remind ourselves of his greatness, rest in His presence, and allow His peace to establish itself in our lives.

If you struggle with finding peace and seeking the still places, join me in this prayer:

Jesus, I want to acknowledge you. I want to be still and know that you are God. I want you to be exalted right now, in every area of my life. Remind me that you are worth more than my busy schedule. You are more important than the most pressing thing in my life. The time you have given me is yours to add or subtract to. Without you, I can do nothing. Through you, I can do all things. Amen.

Much love,
Meg

LLM Presents: Luke Warford

It is with honor that we celebrate Luke this month for the passion and service he has brought to the ministry. In five short months, Luke has already made his way into the hearts of those we serve.

Luke came to LLM after working at a summer camp for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This life changing experience set him on course to attend college at Eastern Kentucky to get his degree in a service field and dedicate his life to serving others to the glory of God. .

Luke says that what he loves most about Lord's Legacy is the joy the participants have. He loves going to Miracle League games, and doing other community activities with them. Sara, Luke's supervisor said this regarding Luke, "Luke is hardworking, dependable, and an amazing asset. All the participants love him. He makes them laugh and enjoy their day in a way no one else can." LLM is blessed to have Luke serving in the ministry.

Nicole Maher

Lord's Legacy would like to officially welcome the newest member of the administrative team, Nicole Maher. Nicole came upon Lord's Legacy while looking for services for her fourteen-year-old daughter, Tarenne, who has Down syndrome. After fifteen years of being a stay-at-home mom, Nicole was ready to return to work. Her degree and past career in Telecommunications no longer held the appeal it once did. She began looking for a way to combine her passion for serving people with disabilities and her skills to start a new phase in life. "When I hit the career opportunities link, I was excited to see a position that both intrigued me and would be a good fit. Knowing that I could be fulfilled at work and serve the Lord was more than I hoped for."

Nicole has spent the last fourteen years deeply involved in the special needs community, both locally and online. She has served on the board with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky, helped to start the first Buddy Walk, has been a guest lecturer and mentor for UK students, and helped UK's Human Development Institute with their "Brighter Tomorrows" training module for doctors and other medical professionals. She started her work with Lord's Legacy at the end of February and is excited to serve the Lord by assisting those with special needs.
