Quote of the Month
"In a word, live together in the forgiveness of your sins, for without it no human fellowship, least of all a marriage, can survive. Don't insist on your rights, don't blame each other, don't judge or condemn each other, don't find fault with each other, but accept each other as you are, and forgive each other every day from the bottom of your hearts..."
Dietrich Bonhoeffer

"Praise be to the God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you," 1 Peter 1: 3-4
LLM Year End Review Slide Show

It has been quite the year at LLM with baseball games, train rides, basketball tournaments, picnics, festivals, celebrations, baptisms, expansion, dances, and a myriad of other events that have brought joy and memories to all.

The snapshots above come close to capturing the spirit of Lord's Legacy. We thank God for the many people, events, places, and circumstances he has give us. At the end of 2013 and the end of every year, we wish to be able to look back and see the full picture--oh how beautiful it is--that Christ has painted. In the words of our fearless President, Jeanene Mader, "Look what God has done!"
Lord's Legacy Trivia Night for Love for L'Allemand

As people of Christ we are no strangers to the plight in Haiti. I will not go into detail here concerning the facts of which we all are aware; guilt is no friend of love, but we should be careful to not brush past the issue. You personally may already be supporting underprivileged lives or be representing Christ according to your calling, but if you're anything like me, it is too easy to experience the slight discomfort associated with thinking of underprivileged lives, then hastily moving to a more pleasant thought. I expect this. The Bible gives explicit warning concerning our hearts and the idea of taking up the plight of another is all too revealing about our natural selves.

This is why I love Christ more than anything in the world. He was not discomforted by the idea of helping the needy. He helped us didn't he? And more than that, he was not discomforted by actually putting his love into action. The God of the universe, clothing himself in flesh, came down and washed all of us clean. As believers, we must war against the desire to be comfortable. We should allow our minds to dwell on the small, impoverished town of L'Allemand long enough to be uncomfortable, then, against all fleshly desire, war against our comfort. We are called, through the power of Christ to take up the cause of the needy. This is why we are here. It is putting our faith into action.

Now that we are uncomfortable, and our spirit rejoicing because of it, the way we can help this town is easy. A group of dedicated missionaries are fulfilling their calling and we will help them do it. On January 3rd, at 7PM, Lord's Legacy will be hosting their third trivia night to raise money for the town. The cost will be 10 dollars a person and will include a fajita bar. All of the proceeds that come from trivia night will go to the 2014 Nutrition Program, allowing the children to eat two meals a day. Please bring a bottle of chewable or gummy kids vitamins and you will be entered to win a $25 dollar Visa Gift Card.

If you can't make this event, there will be another event at Rosemont Baptist Church (556 Rosemont Garden Lexington, KY 40503.) Instead of Trivia, it will be a Zumbathon, so come ready to sweat. The event will be from 12PM-2PM on January 11th. As with the Trivia Night, please bring a bottle of chewable or gummy kids vitamins and you will be entered to win a $25 dollar Visa Gift Card.

Christmas Extravaganza

Lord's Legacy has indeed found a treasure and it is a treasure more valuable and precious than anything else, every year we gather together to celebrate that treasure, to celebrate Christ. This year's Christmas Extravaganza was no different. With praise and worship, Christmas Carols, communion, and a delicious meal, we knew, as we always know, that God has blessed us beyond our imagination. We are especially thankful to Faith United for once again allowing us to use their property. We also want to thank the many families who contributed to the delicious.
The participants give glory to God as they sing carols in the sanctuary

Staff Christmas Social

It was looking a lot like Christmas during our staff appreciation event earlier in December, with plenty of delicious food and door prizes that brought Christmas cheer to all. Each year we hold the Staff Christmas Social in order to thank our Direct Care Professionals for the amazing work they do with the participants of Lord's Legacy. They are making a huge impact in both the community and individual lives. LLM is blessed to have them and can't help but boast about that blessing.

We congratulate Luke Warford, who serves in our ADT department for winning the Keurig and Jamee Adkins for winning the speakers.
Participant Spotlight: Ashley Hogge

Over the years, Ashley has been determined to prove herself, from getting her driver's permit to obtaining and holding down a job at Panera, she does not place limits on herself. Her recent achievement is gaining acceptance to BCTC. She has been working on this goal since last August.

Ashley's ultimate goal is to get a degree in special education with an emphasis in early childhood. Ashley says this is a dream she's had since she was little. She admitted the process for enrollment was a bit challenging, but she is both excited and proud, and feels it is worth the effort.

We are all proud of Ashley for her achievement and wish her great blessings during the journey to her next goal.
LLM Presents: Megan Kuhlwein

Megan Kuhlewein has already left a permanent mark on Lord's Legacy. For the last several months she has acted as both a Direct Care Staff member and our first Practicum student. She is a woman of great faith, who does not hesitate to treat others with love and compassion. She is encouraging, uplifting, dependable, and focused. She has assisted the HR department, CS department, and Residential department greatly in daily operations, and has also provided direct care that has exemplified LLM standards.

Megan is currently a graduate student at the University of Kentucky where she is studying social work. Her drive to help people originated from childhood after she noticed how giving and gracious her parents were to other people. Megan intends to use her degree and her love for others to work in the foster care system.

"What is most rewarding about working at LLM is watching the participant I work with achieve some of her big goals and the excitement on her face," Megan said. She stated that what has been the most challenging is learning all the regulations and understanding how they play into the actual services being provided. Megan admits she does not have much free time, between school and serving with LLM, but when she does she enjoys reading, spending time outside, and seeing family and friends.

Megan has been both a blessing and joy to the ministry. We are honored to have her serve alongside us as we seek to build the kingdom.

Attention Community Support Staff

Mallory, our Recreational Therapist, keeps an updated binder with resources to utilize during CS activities. She also creates a monthly calender with current events. These are great resources and ideas for how to provide support(s) and promote community involvement. If you are struggling with finding new activities, please contact Mallory at Mallory@lordslegacyministries.org
