Father of the Year Press Release
Local resident from Memphis, TN awarded
Father of the Year
by Committed Fathers Alliance
Memphis, TN-----It is no secret that the recognition of fathers seem to be lacking within our society. Much of what we hear about fathers seems to be negative such as they do not live up to their commitment to their children and/or they are deadbeat dads. Committed Fathers Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of father-children relationships. They hold many seminars in the Tacoma, Washington and Portland, Oregon area teaching responsible fatherhood. This is their 2nd Annual nation-wide campaign for Father of the Year who would be recognized at the National Partnership for Community Leaders (NPCL) Fatherhood Conference in Ft. Lauderdale; FL. Committed Fathers Alliance received nominations from across the United States recognizing worthy fathers for their dedication and commitment to their children and other children in the community. The father receiving the award was Radford Dockery from Memphis, TN. Mr. Dockery's story of dedication and commitment to his children and Watch D.O.G.S. to so many others in the Memphis City School District stood out in the minds of the Selection committee.
When told by the Selection Committee that he had won from a nomination given by his daughter his response was, "My daughter told me she had written something on my computer about me, but I thought she was doing something for school and I did not pay any attention to it." Mr. Dockery is a Watch D.O.G.S. in the Memphis School District. Ms. Mary Saulsberry, a parent of a child who attends the Memphis City Schools nominated him and spoke about the uncountable positive changes he has made in the lives of the students. She further spoke about his love for the betterment of the community, the future of the students and especially his love for his children. In his daughter, Raebin Dockery's nomination she talked about her fathers' dedication to being there for other students, yet he is always there for her and continues to give her guidance as she faces challenges in her life moving towards graduation and then college. She concludes her nomination with, "My dad does so many things for the community and the people in it and I love him for what he does. He may not be the best or the perfect person in the world but who cares cause he is an outstanding father in my eyes." His story is news worthy and is an encouragement to all fathers. Some of the things that stuck out in the minds of the Selection Committee were not only what Mr. Dockery did in the school and for the Watch D.O.G.S. organization, but the words that were used to describe his efforts in the various other activities, such as fundraisers and other community events and still play a part in the lives of his children.
Mr. Radford Dockery's award includes him and a friend being flown to the 14th Annual International Fatherhood Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This award provides airfare, hotel accommodations, and a $500 stipend. Mr. Dockery will have an opportunity to attend the conference seminars, be awarded a plaque, and recognized during the conference at the "Spirit of Fatherhood Hall of Fame Luncheon" on June 13th. The theme for the conference is "Expanding Responsible Fatherhood and Healthy Family Program Connections" which will be held June 12th - June 15th. Founder and Executive Director of Committed Fathers Alliance, Lance Dickson states that for every bad father mentioned in the media there are at least 10 responsible fathers loving, caring, and being an active part in their children's lives. We are very pleased to be able to recognize a responsible father for a job well done.

Father Son Father Daughter Recognition Day Petition
Read the Petition To: U.S.Congress The relationship between a father and his child is a relationship that should be honored, respected, and encouraged. This country is facing an epidemic of children growing up without the love, support, and encouragement that a father can provide. Data from the U.S. Dept. Health and Human Services shows that children from fatherless homes are: · 5 times more likely to commit suicide. · 32 times more likely to run away. · 20 times more likely to have behavioral disorders. · 14 times more likely to commit rape. · 9 times more likely to drop out of school. · 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances. · 9 times more likely to end up in a state operated institution. · 20 times more likely to end up in prison. The Committed Fathers Alliance is dedicated to enhance the relationship between fathers and their children. In an effort to restore strained relationships and enhance existing relationships between fathers and their children, the Committed Fathers Alliance is proposing a National Father Daughter Recognition Day to be held on the third Saturday in the month of April and a National Father Son Recognition Day to be held on the third Saturday in the month of July. These are days where the relationship between a father and his daughter and a father and his son can be celebrated by the general public along with the father and his child. These will be special days where a father can enhance the relationship with his children by sharing an activity, special event, or dinner as a means of showing the love and commitment he has for his child. Please help our efforts to establish these special days by signing this petition in order to show your support of the importance of reestablishing and enhancing the father children relationships in this country. Sincerely, Sign the Petition Go to http://www.petitiononline.com/CFA30407/petition.html to sign the online petition and help make Father Son Father Daughter Recognition day a nationally recognized day. |
