Dear Colleague,

It's been two years since the Commission report was published in The Lancet and we are extremely gratified by how its messages and recommendations for reforming health professional education are spreading worldwide. There are now countries on every continent that have initiated reform activities or are strategizing how to adapt report findings to their local context.

The past few months have been particularly productive for our partners, whose initiatives added significantly to the momentum of reform: the U.S. Institute of Medicine's Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education, headed by Dr. Patrick Kelley, and the InterAcademy Medical Panel (IAMP), a global network of 71 national medical and science academies, headed by Dr. Bernie Jones. Updates on their activities are in stories below.

We are now at a crossroads. We have accomplished our follow-up goals to disseminate and advocate globally for the report's findings, supported by a two-year grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Time will tell if the report has in fact initiated a 21st century revolution in health professional education along the lines of Flexner's in the last century. But the spark has been lit.

This is our last newsletter, although the Lancet report and other related information can still be found at www.healthprofessionals21.org. We are now counting on others like you to continue reform efforts. Thank you for your interest in following our progress.

Our best wishes for the New Year,
