Mike Baker of tourismZA went to Switzerland for two weeks in July. The purpose of the visit was to:
- To get a feel of the tourism market in Switzerland
- To visit some of the tourism companies that actively send tourists from Switzerland and Germany to South Africa and explore the possibility of inviting one or two of them back to South Africa.
The outcome:
- There are some real synergies from an adventure tourism perspective.
- As opposed to bringing representatives from tourism companies to South Africa we decided to appoint Gabriella von Glasow as a full-time tourismZA representative in Switzerland and bring her out to South Africa.
Gabriella arrived in South Africa at the beginning of September. During this visit she has been based in Cape Town and we have focussed her attention on the West Coast up to Saldanha and Paternoster and the West Coast up as far as Port St Johns. Simplistically the idea is for her to head back to Switzerland with a first-hand experience of flying into Cape Town and the unique diversity of experiences available between the West and East coast.
From there tourismZA will proactively work with participating tourism industry destinations and service providers to present their respective offering to the Swiss and German markets.
Gabriella heads up the East coast today. For your information I have reflected a brief overview of the remainder of her itinerary.
