Sarah's Note: Capacity vs. Potential

At the end of the day, I often feel I've reached my limit. I've done all I can do. But I rarely feel I've accomplished everything I wanted to. I've reached my capacity, but not my potential.

When you are working to capacity, you are utilizing all of your resources, but the outcome is variable. When you are working to potential, you are accomplishing everything it's possible to accomplish.

The problem is, with everything we have to do, it's easy to reach capacity without even thinking about potential.

This is true for all of us, especially in today's do-it-yourself, do everything world. Think about the small business owner who is one moment social media department, then finance, customer relations, graphic design, billing, website maintenance, content development, and on and on.

Our philosophy at The Purple Crayon is to leverage community to build capacity. Connect with the people and resources around you--collaboration, information exchange, and resource sharing may be the key to taking your work to the next level.

Since, of course, reaching potential is the goal.

Branding

Are You Paying Enough Attention to Your Brand?

Well now you can. Julie Cottineau, former VP of Brand for Richard Branson's Virgin is here to show you how. She will be holding open office hours at the Purple Crayon and giving free 30 minute Brand Diagnostics Health Checks on December 11th and 18th from 9 to 11am  to determine how hard your brand is currently working for your business and to identify areas where it and can and should be working harder. (That's just 8 spots, people, so email us if you'd like to reserve one, or take your chances on a walk-in.)

Special Promotion for Friends of The Purple Crayon

As a special promotion for readers of this newsletter, Julie is offering an exclusive discount on her new project Brand School by Brand Twist, an online branding class specifically designed to meet the needs of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Learn more about Brand School and this offer here

SWAT: A place for teens to "Snack. Watch. Talk."

The monthly film series for 14-18 year olds is both a place to come watch great movies, and a community to watch them with. Film selections including pop movie hits, indispensible indies, and classic, can't-miss movies. Each movie night includes a lounge time and a discussion exploring the issues raised in the film and making connections to the experiences we all have.

To make sure we're making selections that appeal, we are asking locals in this age group to fill out a quick survey. Please share it with anyone who might contribute. Please only fill out this survey if you are between the ages of 14 and 18.
