Emergency Planning for the Diverse Needs of Communities

This full-day course emphasizes the role and responsibility of emergency management and ESF 8 stakeholders to become aware of, recognize, and incorporate the diverse needs of their communities into emergency management. Participants will walk away with a wealth of resources including best practices, lessons identified, web-based tools, diverse needs concepts, and contact information that will help them strengthen their planning processes to protect the diverse needs of communities in the event of a disaster. Register now to reserve a spot for our April 3rd offering in Brockton or our April 11th offering in Boston. The course will not be offered again until Fall 2013.

Are You Prepared for an Active Shooter at Your Hospital?

Although hospital-based shootings are still rare, these deadly attacks can affect numerous lives. Since predicting these events is close to impossible, preparation is critical. Experts from the Department of Homeland Security, various law enforcement agencies, and the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety have provided key recommendations in preparing an Emergency Action Plan for an active shooter event. Although these recommendations - which include conducting an assessment and preparing a safe hiding place - are geared towards hospitals, they are applicable for all healthcare facilities.
