U.S. Senate Cuts Afterschool Funding!
On June 7, 2016, the United States Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education (LHHS) Appropriations Subcommittee passed their Fiscal Year 2017 education budget. The budget cuts 21st Century Community Learning Centers by $117 million!

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) initiative was funded at $1,050,000,000-a cut of $117 million below the current FY2016 level of $1.166 billion. The proposed level is slightly above the level authorized in last year's Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), however it represents about a 10 percent cut from the current funding level.

Summer Learning Day is July 14th!
Request official recognition of Summer Learning Day from your mayor, aligned with National Summer Learning Association's July 14th activities, or in conjunction with any local summer events or advocacy days you are planning.

Most offices require up to eight weeks of advance notice for proclamations, so now is the time to make this request and to send this along to your partners!

For a sample proclamation, visit the NSLA website.

For questions about the purpose of a proclamation and submitting a proclamation, contact Michelle Rich at mrich@sppg.com. Especially if you get one signed, we'd love to know about it!
