AMERICAN VETERANS
REAL HEROES
Throughout the history of our country there has been many accolades paid to men and women that helped form this nation. But the real heroes are the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Some made the supreme sacrifice, many have wounds, physically & mentally, all because of love of country and their fellow man. On this day, Sunday, November 11, we pause to remember and give thanks to all our service men and women who sacrifice so much. However, every day, when you see men and women in uniform, take a moment, go over and thank them for their service. It only takes a few seconds of your time but it means so much to them.

 The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - A Forgotten History?
This Sunday (November 11) is Veterans Day! Veterans Day is a time to honor the survivors, and to be grateful for their service and sacrifice to defend what we as Americans believe.
 This holiday (originally known as Armistice Day) was established to remember the 1918 signing of the Armistice Treaty and to honor the heroes of World War I. In 1921, Congress resolved to build a tomb to honor the men who died overseas. Sergeant Edward Younger was given the task of choosing one of four unknown American soldiers to bring home for burial. When the Navy ship Olympia arrived in Washington on November 9th with the body of the fallen soldier, America responded. The Calvary band played "Onward Christian Soldiers" as the casket was taken to the U.S. Capitol, where the soldier was laid in State. President Warren G. Harding, governmental officials, and thousands of Americans paid their respects to this fallen soldier. Read More......

To my Shipmates of long ago, some gone but never forgotten. Fair winds and following seas.
To memories of the good times and bearing through harm's way together. They may have good men now but they'll never have better.
To Veterans of our brother services, my respect and admiration. To the memory of Veterans from the beginning of this nation till this very moment, I wish the same.
God grant that the belief in something bigger than ourselves, the willingness to stand for TRUTH and for what's right, continue to be taught in the heartland, especially now and in the future.

What does being a Veteran mean to me?
It is not an easy question to answer because it evokes both a logical and emotional response. It is what makes me stand up when the flag passes by, get a lump in my throat during the National Anthem, and makes me tear-up at the Vietnam Wall and Changing of the Guard at the Tomb. It means that I still care fervently about this Nation and our people. It means I am proud to still be a guardian of the Constitution and the way of life it supports. I know I am privileged to be part of the group of people who were willing to write that famous check and, further, the special club of combat veterans who not only wrote the check, but signed it. Above all, I am proud to be part of a long line of men and women that begins with the very birth of this Nation, passes through all those who stood on the wall in its defense, and extends as far into the future as brave men and women exist who will risk all in defense of freedom.
Being a veteran forever sets you apart from the rest of society. When called, we went. That is something that those who chose not to serve can never say.
