Rookie of the Year Trucking's Top Rookie News  
Time is running out to submit your applicants for the TOP Rookie of the Year!

Nominations may be made by motor carrier employers, training organizations, the general public and/or other interested parties.

There is a standardized nomination form, which can be completed online at Top Rookie Brochure between May 15 and  June 21, 2012.

An expert panel of judges, which includes representatives from motor carriers, schools (both public and private), suppliers and trade associations, will identify 10 finalists. The winner will be interviewed by Eric Harley on RedEye Radio Network and will be recognized during a press conference at the Great American Truck Show in Dallas, TX.

FMCSA to Propose CSA-Related Changes - The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration confirmed Friday it will propose changes to the presentation of its safety-rankings system later this year.

The changes to the Compliance, Safety, Accountability program are aimed at making it clearer to the public that fleets' scores are not meant to be safety ratings.

Inspectors Cast Wide Net at Roadcheck Safety Blitz -

LANDOVER, Md. - Driver Paul Miller sat in the cab of his big rig parked in a FedEx Field lot here June 4, chomping on a cigar and looking a little dejected as mechanics feverishly worked to repair his blown trailer wheel seal.

This was the last place Miller wanted to be - a temporary graveyard of sorts for trucks placed out of service in the shadow of a sports stadium. He said it was the first time he's been in this situation in his 35 years behind the wheel... Continue reading
Senate Introduces the LNG Excise Tax Equalization Act  -
Recently, the U.S. Congress introduced bipartisan legislation to equitably tax liquefied natural gas as a transportation fuel. Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Richard Burr (R-NC) introduced the legislation, titled the "LNG Excise Tax Equalization Act of 2013" (S.1103).

The bill makes a simple but important modification in the way LNG is taxed as a transportation fuel. Currently, the federal highway excise tax on both diesel and LNG is set at 24.3 cents per gallon (Internal Revenue Code 4041). Continue reading

Productivity Rises in First Quarter - U.S. workers' productivity rose 0.5% in the first quarter, the Labor Department reported Wednesday.

The measure of employee output per hour had declined 1.7% in the fourth quarter of last year.
