This year, the California Business Alliance (CBA) will be focused on an important task: the implementation of the state's landmark clean energy and transportation policies. Engaging in the AB 32 Scoping Plan process will feature prominently into our work plan, along with implementing the Low Carbon Fuel StandardAdvanced Clean Cars program, and last year's climate bill, SB 350 (De Len).

In addition to the regulatory policy implementation highlighted above, we will continue to be a leading business member of California Delivers, a coalition of more than 350 California businesses, organizations and individuals that support the state's clean energy economy. If you haven't taken the time to join this effort, I hope you will. It's the largest collaboration of its kind in the state.

Meanwhile, we want to keep telling your stories of growth, success and cutting edge innovation, and ensure that California policy makers know that there are more than 1,300 small and mainstream companies in the CBA that support our state's approach to clean energy policies.

I hope you will continue to follow breaking news stories daily on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. Meanwhile, we are moving our eNews to a quarterly publication schedule. Be on the lookout for the next issue this spring.

CALIFORNIA CRANKS OUT NEW BUSINESS AND JOBS DESPITE CRITICISM
California has spawned new businesses at one of the fastest rates in the nation over the last decade, and faster than the U.S. economy overall, the report found. The state is also a leader in job creation tied to those new businesses: In 2013, California added jobs from newly established businesses faster than all but four other states.

REV Honored with Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award

Alliance member REV, based in San Francisco, is among 12 California organizations recently recognized with the prestigious 2015 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA), the state's highest environmental honor. REV received the honor at an evening ceremony on January 19, 2016, in the California Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Sacramento.

Established in 1993, GEELA is awarded to individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made notable, voluntary contributions in conserving California's precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, building public-private partnerships and strengthening the State's economy.

"The entire REV team is honored to receive the 2015 GEELA award," said Elliot Hoffman, CEO and Founder of REV. "It is a testament to the businesses, organizations and communities in California that recognize the great challenges and opportunities facing us all in this era of transformations. It is vital that we all provide leadership for our nation and world in designing and implementing sustainability and climate solutions that result in action that truly makes a positive difference for our future, our children and all life."

"This year's GEELA recipients made extraordinary gains in sustainability, waste reduction and conservation," said Secretary for Environmental Protection Matthew Rodriquez. "The winners also demonstrated their environmental achievements resulted in greater efficiency and economic benefits that spread beyond their organizations."

Rivanna Natural Designs started in 2001 with a simple objective: to create green jobs for refugees and others in our community who needed safe, meaningful, and rewarding employment.

Their original plan was to make Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified corporate gifts, small items that could be hand crafted by recently-arrived non-English speakers. Within months of opening, a prospective customer asked Rivanna to make plaques. Today, they design and build plaques and awards for customers in 48 states and Canada.

Without the burden of legacy products or practices, Rivanna has been free to define their work and their outputs according to their own sense of what is best for customers and the environment. In addition to FSC-certified wood, they have added other planet-friendly materials to their portfolio. They've also established solid supply-chain partnerships to help us design and create beautiful products.

Rivanna believes products that express gratitude, reward performance, and celebrate excellence should harm neither the planet nor the people who create, purchase, or receive them. Over the past 14 years, they've done their best to introduce fresh thinking and elegant award designs while upholding their commitment to our planet and community.
