Dirty Roots
Service Leaders: The Dissidents
Sunday, July 24 at 10:30 AM
We each have our own spiritual roots that got us to UUCP, and together we create a new, collective spiritual community. Today, the Dissidents take us on a musical journey from their own roots to our congregation.

A Spiritual Journey from Fear to Freedom
Service Leaders:  Ileana Salinas
Sunday, July 31 at 10:30 AM
Traumatic experiences can affect our relationship with ourselves and others. The path from fear to freedom can be achieved through different expressions of love. How do we keep the lessons, let go of the pain, and re-open ourselves to let the spirit of life flow through us freely again?
Upcoming Classes and Events
Sangha Buddhist Group
Thursday, July 28, at 7:00 pm, Annex H
UUCP members have started a Buddhist sangha, a group of people who gather to learn Buddhist teachings (the dharma) and support one another in Buddhist practice, including meditation. We will start the meeting with 30 minutes of meditation followed by a dharma reading and discussion. You need not be a Buddhist to attend, just interested in your spiritual growth. If you have questions, contact Donna Featherston at 602-997-7996 or Katherine Kruse at 602-369-9477.
Engaging in Racial Justice
Get involved with establishing a racial justice ministry at UUCP as we explore what it means to be in solidarity with the growing Black Lives Matter movement. Emrys Staton will be working with our congregation to plug into ongoing racial justice work in the Valley, and to deepen our understanding of how racism, oppression, and white supremacy are woven into our lives. Contact Emrys at the link below to learn more.
Maryland School Partnership
It's July and it's hot! Who is thinking about school? We are because the school year will be starting on August 8 and students will be lining up to enter their new classrooms. Many students come to Maryland School from families that have a very difficult time providing support for their children, school budgets are inadequate to maintain needed programs and teachers often spend their own money to have necessary supplies. Also many students require extra help to master grade level skills. Your help is needed in a variety of ways! Please check this month's Horizons for more information or stop by the back table this month to pick up information about our partnership, a list of supplies that are needed and a list of opportunities for volunteering. Supplies will be collected from July 10 through August 7.

This group is part of the justice ministry. Everyone is welcome to attend, share creative ideas as well as stitch and talk. A sewing machine is nice to bring but not necessary.
