Congregational Meeting
Sunday, January 31, at 10:30 AM, Sanctuary
Please join the Board for our midyear Congregational Meeting on Sunday, January 31, at 10:30 AM between services in the Sanctuary. At this meeting the Board and Vision Task Force will unveil the new Vision statement that we hope to adopt at the following Congregational Meeting in June. This is one important step in an ongoing conversation about who we want to be as a congregation. All are welcome, and childcare is provided.
Community Night
Thursday, February 4, at 6:00 PM, Johnson Room
Join us for dinner and conversation starting at 6:00 PM. We will provide the main dish (including a vegetarian option) and a side dish. If you are able, bring a side dish or dessert to share. Chalice Kids will start at 6:30 PM and we have activities planned for all the kids. The suggested donation is $5/adult, $2/children under 10, $10/family. Guided Archaeology Hike
Saturday, January 30, at 8:00 AM
We will explore mysterious rock art left behind by those who inhabited the Phoenix Basin more than 1,000 years ago.  After a short hike we use binoculars to spot surprising images pecked into the rocks of South Mountain Park. Large waterbirds, bighorn sheep, and strange geometric designs are among the figure we are likely to see this year. Children are OK if supervised. Young Adult Small Group

The young adult small group is a place for "younger" adults to get together and talk about issues important to us. We provide a safe space to share ideas and challenge each other respectfully. We are an open group and anyone who feels they are a young adult-regardless of age-is welcome to join and share their thoughts with us.

UUCP Community Book Corner
First Sunday of the month in the Sanctuary
The UUCP Community Book Corner is the first Sunday of each month.
February's theme is love, and there are three featured books, one each,
for adults, young adults and children.There will be other books, as well, which promote our UU values. Come celebrate the theme of love with a purchase, browsing or sharing your thoughts!
Sewing and Craft Circle
Saturday, January 30th, drop in between Noon and 4:00 PM
The Sewing and Craft Circle meets in the Johnson room on January 30th to make simple items to help others. The group makes pillowcase knapsacks for the Sewing Project for Foster Children, children's dresses and young adult clothing for an education mission in Cuernavaca, baby blankets and caps for Hogar Materno in Central America, and lap blankets for local wheelchair bound people. We'd love to meet you and sew, knit, crochet, or quilt together. Please call or email us if you are thinking of coming so we can notify you if there is a last minute change. UU Day at the Legislature
Monday, February 15, Downtown at State Capital
Unitarian Universalists from across the state will gather in Phoenix to build relationships with their legislators.  Last year participants met with more than 25 legislators.  Please join us in make our UU voice heard!

Children are welcome to participate, there will be a few sign making and banner decorating opportunities and there is a park nearby for exploring.

Board of Trustees Meeting
Tuesday, January 26, at 6:00 PM, Johnson Room
We invite all members to join us for the monthly Board of Trustees meeting. Break bread and socialize with us starting at 6:00 PM, and the meeting begins at 6:30 PM. Friday, January 29
Join a group from UUCP to visit a mosque for the Friday evening services on January 29. We will participate in the service and speak with some leaders from the mosque to learn more about the religion of Islam and the Muslim community in Phoenix.

GLBT Inclusion Conference

Can a lesbian who works in Scottsdale be fired simply for who she is? Can a transgendered person be refused service at a restaurant in Scottsdale? Can a gay couple be turned down on a rental application?  

If you answered no to any of these questions, join us for an "Open for Worship" interactive workshop to learn about Arizona's non-discrimination policies and how you can help make a difference. The workshop is at 7100 N. Mockingbird Lane in Paradise Valley. Please RSVP below

Sangha Buddhist Group
Second and Fourth Thursdays 7:00 PM in Annex H
UUCP members are starting a Buddhist sangha, a group of people who gather to learn Buddhist teachings (the dharma) and support one another in Buddhist practice, including meditation. The sangha will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, beginning on Thursday, February 11. We will start the meeting with 30 minutes of meditation followed by a dharma reading and discussion. You need not be Buddhist to attend, just interested in your spiritual growth. UU College of Social Justice
March 29 - April 3
The UU College of Social Justice still has a number of spots available on our upcoming Border Justice program from March 29-April 3! As representatives of Congregations that have pledged to support the New Sanctuary Movement, we thought that you and your fellow congregants would be interested in experiencing the depth of the immigration crisis firsthand. Our delegation will meet with the Minister and lay leadership of a Tucson, AZ church that has successfully provided sanctuary to undocumented individuals resisting deportation. 

Registration deadline is January 24.
