Annual Spring Picnic

Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 AM

Come one and all to the 2015 UUCP Annual Spring Picnic! Join us on Saturday, February 28, for food and fun at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. This is an all-age event for the young, the young at heart, and everyone in between. The Membership Committee will provide beverages, plates and utensils. All you need to bring is a potluck dish (no BBQing, please) and your appetite. You will have the opportunity to compete in relay races for fabulous prizes! Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments for a jam session sing-along. The picnic will be held at the Rotary Ramada at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 East Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Email Jenny Jones with any questions, or you can call her at 480-206-2189.

THIS SUNDAY AT 9:30 & 11:15 AM
February 15:  Patchwork Theology
Service Leader: Rev. Karla Brockie
What's the pattern?!  Unitarian Universalist congregations are bound by covenant and values, not by a single creed or theology.  We gather together with many theologies (and atheologies; can we make that a word?).  Let's try and stitch them together somehow...
Rev. Karla Brockie is the Assistant Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh, North Carolina.  She has been minister of the Sky Island UU Church in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and a hospice chaplain.

Share Your Wisdom
Sunday, February 15, at the first coffee hour
Our Coming of Age youth are exploring beliefs and would like to learn more about yours. COA members will be at coffee hour after the first service on Sunday and would like to interview adults in the congregation. If you are willing, please check in with Director Anne for an INTERVIEW ME badge.
Share the Plate:  Paw Placement
Sunday, February 15
Paw Placement is a no-kill animal rescue that has saved close to 5,000 cats and dogs since 2002.  It is one of the few rescue groups that offers a place to turn when someone dies or loses their home or when the public finds abandoned animals and can't afford the pound intake fee. Paw Placement was responsible for finding a good home for the cats of a UUCP family who had to downsize into a smaller apartment, and UUCP members have served both as foster care volunteers and adopters of these wonderful animals. Sunday's offering will benefit Paw Placement.
Coffee Hour Showcase:  Poetry Coffeehouse
Sunday, February 15 at both coffee hours
Do you write or appreciate poetry? Poetry coffeehouse is the place for you. Stop by the Poetry Coffeehouse table at both Coffee Hours to learn more.

NEXT SUNDAY AT 9:30 & 11:15 AM
February 22:  Living Compassion is Not Easy
Service Leader:
Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
Compassion seems simple on the surface perhaps. Love, caring, kindness-all good things. They seem simple enough.  But living them when life gets difficult is not easy. The wisdom of compassion challenges our tendencies to self-righteousness, our ego, and it challenges us to live in ways that take practiced discipline. Turns out, it is not so easy.

Board Chat:  Visioning the Future

Sunday, February 22, at 10:45 AM in Annex H

Vision is an image of the future we seek to create. The Board created a Vision Task Force to lead UUCP in conversations to discern and clarify a compelling and inspiring vision for our future. The task force wants to hear from you, members and friends! The following meetings are open to all. The new vision will be used to shape the next set of strategic ends for UUCP.
