UUCP Compass
February:  Living a Life of Compassion
FEATURED THIS WEEK

UU Day at the Legislature

Unitarian Universalists from across the state will gather in Phoenix to build relationships with their legislators and prepare us to continue our conversation throughout the 2015 Arizona Legislative Session. Last year, over 125 UUs, including from UUCP, met with more than 25 legislators.

Please save the date (February 16th) and join us on President's Day in Phoenix. You can sign up to attend here. Additionally, please watch for information on an optional training session to be held prior to the event. This can help to familiarize you with some of the issues including immigration, education, health care and more. The annual Day at the Legislature is a project of the Unitarian Universalist Justice Arizona Network.

THIS SUNDAY AT 9:30 & 11:15 AM
February 1:  From Courage of Compassion
Service Leader:  Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
Maya Angelou said that courage is a foundation for all other virtues because to live our values fully takes courage. Living compassion indeed takes courage and takes us into places where we need courage.
Pathway to Membership
Sundays, February 1 and 8, at 8:45 AM
Please join us for this two-session series if you are interested in meeting others, learning about the responsibilities and benefits of membership, and getting a brief history of UUCP and Unitarian Universalism. No fee. Childcare provided. Register at the Welcome Table on Sunday, by clicking here, or by calling 602-840-8400, Ext. 200.
UMOM New Day Center Meal Service
Sunday, February 1, at 5:15 PM at UMOM New Day Center
Live out the UU commitment to serving those in need by serving a meal to the residents of the UMOM New Day Center. Volunteers meet at the center at 5:15 PM and help feed a nutritious meal to the 150 parents and children who are living at New Day and rebuilding their lives. This is a great opportunity for singles, couples, or families with children (age 8+) to be of service, spend time with friends and make new ones. This is a one-time, two-hour commitment. Please email Janet Williams if you can help today or if you would like to volunteer for next month.
NEXT SUNDAY AT 9:30 & 11:15 AM
February 8:  Compassion:  A Starting Point, Not a Finish Line
Service Leader:  Misha D. Lentz
Having compassion for others is essential to the living of Unitarian Universalist principles.  But, the very idea itself creates an 'other'... and that's where things might get tricky.   Seeing the 'other' in ourselves is sometimes challenging, but necessary if we are to do the real next-step work of compassion, which is inclusion.  Let's talk about what that means in our real lives.
Misha is a seminary student at Meadville Lombard UU Theological School and a longtime friend or Rev. Linda Lawrence.
Starting Point
